Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have announced the official cast for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX and there are some surprises! Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. New cast members include Naomi Ackie (Doctor Who) and Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Hudson Hawk). They will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. The most surprising news is that there is unused footage of Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa that will be used in the film! Director J.J. Abrams had this to say in a statement: "We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we … [Read more...] about The Cast of STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Announced! Composer of star wars
16 minutes ago The Star Wars franchise has gone through a lot of changes over the years, from different directors to new ownership, but one thing has remained constant with the main saga: John Williams. While composing duties for the standalone Star Wars movies have been passed on to others (Michael Giacchino scored Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, John Powell is scoring Solo: A Star Wars Story), Williams has scored all the main Star Wars movies himself, from A New Hope back in 1977 to The Last Jedi last December. Following its impressive run in theaters, The Last Jedi's home release has officially kicked off, and for those of you who have a Movies Anywhere account, you have the opportunity access a version of the movie where the only audio you'll hear is Williams' music. Earlier today, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson took to his Twitter page and revealed that if you purchase a copy of the movie digitally or use the digital code that comes with the Blu-ray, you'll … [Read more...] about There’s A Music-Only Version Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Here’s How You Can Watch It
Star Wars ever since A New Hope premiered in 1977. Williams has composed the music for all eight of the Skywalker Saga films, and will be conducting new scores for both Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode IX. That’s a lot of Star Wars, and now it appears the time has finally come for Williams to retire from the franchise. In an interview with Classical KUSC, Williams discusses his time with the franchise, and indicates that he may finally be calling it quits after he finishes the Episode IX score: “We know J.J. Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him. I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine, that will be quite enough for me.” Also read: Harrison Ford Didn’t Care About Passing ‘Star Wars’ To A New Generation Of course, a lot can change between now and when Episode IX opens in 2019, but as Williams says in the interview, Disney will most likely keep … [Read more...] about John Williams Says ‘Episode IX’ Will Be ‘Quite Enough’ Star Wars Films For Him
"It is a remarkable thing and I'm incredibly grateful and it is a testament, I think, to how much people wanted to go back to a place that means a lot to so many," says J.J. Abrams as we sit down at the Santa Monica offices of his Bad Robot production company to record the 'Awards Chatter' podcast and I congratulate him on Star Wars: The Force Awakens becoming the highest-grossing film of all time this week. "For three years I had people asking how I was dealing with all the pressure," he continues. That's a long time to have that question coming at you. Especially towards the end, it seemed to increase every minute we got closer to the film's release. It got to a point where I thought, 'Okay, I think I'm gonna have to have a heart attack because literally I'm being asked this question so many times that the only possible answer is for me to implode. And the relief that I feel now that the movie's out and it didn't just crash and burn is enormous." (You can play and read the … [Read more...] about ‘Awards Chatter’ Podcast — J.J. Debating which is better, Star Wars or Star Trek, isn’t likely to be more productive than debating which is better, my religion or yours, because both sides have fans who are devoted to their favorite franchise and thus unable to see issues from the perspective of the other side. However, while Star Wars and Star Trek share a futuristic setting, there are differences between them that could be basis for objective assessment of their relative merits. It appears that the essential distinction between both franchises is their different perspectives of the possible social and political conditions of future societies. Star Trek adopts an idealistic and optimistic view that technological progress will be accompanied by moral and ethical advancement, and a drive towards social and political Utopian ideals. Star Wars suggests that technological progress will not by itself push social and political progress and that primitive conditions could co-exist with extreme levels of … [Read more...] about 20 Hilarious Memes That Prove Star Wars Is Better Than Star Trek
