Bill Shine was accustomed to calling into control rooms at Fox News when he served as co-president of the network. Micromanaging shows was a tradition handed down by longtime Fox News boss Roger Ailes, who had a dedicated line in the control room he would to ring regularly, known as the ‘red phone.’ (The ‘red phone’ is black.) Ailes used the line to issue directives. “Change the lower third,” or “end this segment,” he’d bark at show producers. The ‘red phone’ tradition died with Ailes. But Mediaite has learned Shine continued to call into Fox News’s studios — even after he was ousted from the network and hired by Trump to serve as his communications director. A New York City lawmaker faces calls to resign after he said the “homosexual community” controls the city council. “People don’t want me to speak the truth,” Rubén Diaz Sr. told The New York Post in a Sunday report. “They not only control City Council, they control the politics in the state. The whole [gay] community — they are well organized, they got power.” This echoes a statement made Saturday on Diaz’s Twitter account. Controversy stems from an interview the city councilman gave to the Spanish-language radio show El Desahogo. Diaz, who assumed office in his Bronx district in 2018, said that he was rebuffed at first because the “homosexual community” controlled the city council, according to NY1.
