The Directors Guild of America on Monday revealed its nominations for the 73rd annual DGA Awards in the fields of TV, commercials and documentary. The guild, which will unveil its theatrical feature film and first-time feature film nominees tomorrow, will announce this year’s winners April 10 during a virtual event. Among the notable nominees today was Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso , the Golden Globe and Critics Choice winner. It snagged two noms today for directors Zach Braff and MJ Delaney in the Comedy Series category. It is joined there by HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm which also pulled off the double, for helmers Erin O’Malley and Jeff Schaffer. Jon Favreau was nominated for two separate projects: for Disney+’s The Mandalorian in Dramatic Series and Netflix’s The Chef Show in Reality. CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert director Jim Hoskinson also scored two noms. He taught the craft to Cary Grant and Johnny Carson and performed with Glen Campbell in Las Vegas. Mark Wilson, an influential magician who played a pioneering role in proving that magic could thrive on television, has died. He was 91. Wilson died Jan. 19 of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles, a publicist announced. From 1960-65, Wilson produced and starred with his wife, Nani Darnell, in the first network TV series of its type, The Magic Land of Allakazam , which ran on Saturday mornings on CBS, ABC and then in syndication and featured Bev Bergeron as Rebo the Clown. In addition to performing all over the world with his wife and their sons, Greg and Mike, Wilson taught celebrities like Cary Grant, Bill Bixby and Johnny Carson how to employ magic in their work and helped set up tricks for films, TV productions, commercials, amusement parks and live attractions. EXCLUSIVE : The Time 100 Women of the Year initiative is getting a scripted anthology series treatment. Amazon Studios is developing Women Of the Year, a TV adaptation of the Time 100 Women of the Yea r project and special issue, conceived by filmmaker Alma Har’el, which launched for International Women’s Day 2020 to recognize the contributions of female leaders, innovators, activists, entertainers, athletes and artists who defined the century from 1920 through 2019. A year later, on International Women’s Day 2021, the partners behind Time 100 Women of the Year, Har’el and her company Jellywolf, Time Studios and consumer goods giant P&G, have re-teamed for the Women Of the Year TV series. Comcast has quietly abandoned plans to tap into the news resources at NBC and its British pay-TV broadcaster Sky to launch an international television news channel, named NBC Sky World News . NBC News sources told Deadline that ambitions to premiere the channel over the summer have been shelved amid the coronavirus pandemic. They did not rule out revisiting the project, but it is not seen as commercially viable at this time. The Financial Times reported that more than 50 NBC Sky World News staff were told about the decision on Wednesday. They will now go through a period of consultation to determine their future within the Comcast empire. NBC News chairman Andy Lack set out his vision for the channel in January, revealing that it would compete with CNN International and BBC World News. He planned to recruit a dedicated team of 100-200 staff, as well as drawing on the output of 3,500 journalists at NBC and Sky News.
