It was in early February that the Wall Street Journal broke the story about Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and the 2013 event he attended alongside anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, which was years after the prominent Democrat denounced his previous ties to the Nation of Islam founder back in 2006 when he first ran for Congress. For nearly five months (or 12 years when you think about it), Ellison was never pressed by the media about his relationship with a man who called white people “potential humans,” Adolf Hitler a “very great man,” and literally blamed Jews for 9/11. And frankly, it’s remarkable how Ellison’s own history of controversial remarks haven’t tarnished his public image. He once called for a separate country for Black Americans. He reportedly ranted to classmates that Jews were “oppressors” to minorities. He also defended convicted domestic terrorist Sara Jane Olson and convicted cop … [Read more...] about CNN’s Jake Tapper Deserves Credit For Being the First to Grill Keith Ellison On Ties To Farrakhan

On Thursday, ex-Senate Intel Committee aide James Wolfe appeared before a judge on charges of lying to the FBI about his contacts with reporters. His case, as the New York Times noted, “led to the first known instance of the Justice Department going after a reporter’s data under President Trump.” Yet, as CNN’s Jake Tapper noted on The Lead, attacks on press freedom did not begin with the Trump administration. Instead, according to Tapper, under the Obama administration, the media “called it out all the time.” “The Obama Administration also repeatedly attacked press freedoms and we called it out at the time,” Tapper said. “It was heinous then and it is just as contemptible now.” Then referring the to Wolfe case specifically, Tapper continued on: “Questions we have about this incident include the following: if the Senate intelligence committee staffer was charged with lying and not charged with leaking, how bad could … [Read more...] about CNN’s Jake Tapper Asks: Is Trump Escalating Obama’s ‘War on Leaks’?
“I’ve always kind of felt like eventually it was going to happen here too,” a young student says after her high school experienced a mass shooting https://t.co/JP7Hx9t49N pic.twitter.com/dimPBn3nC8 — The Lead CNN (@TheLeadCNN) May 18, 2018 There has been yet another school shooting in America, this time at Santa Fe High School in Texas. Addressing the scourge of shootings on The Lead on Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper read through a list of deadly attacks on our nation’s campuses, from the horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida that left 17 dead to other recent tragedies, such as the one at Huffman High School that received considerably less media coverage. He then ended with the Santa Fe attack which is so fresh, that the final death toll did not flash on the screen. Tapper then replayed a tape of a Santa Fe student speaking to the media after the shooting at her school that left 10 dead and others injured. “It’s … [Read more...] about CNN’s Jake Tapper After Santa Fe School Shooting: ‘Ask Yourself, Are We Failing Our Children?’

Jake Tapper has spent the last several years immersed in the 1950s, and it has him thinking about the current state of our politics. The CNN anchor just published his first novel, The Hellfire Club (Little, Brown and Company, April 24), a 1950s-set political thriller about secret societies, McCarthyism and how Washington compromises event the best-intentioned politician. Tapper, 49, who grew up in Philadelphia and attended Dartmouth, talked with The Hollywood Reporter about the book, how studying McCarthyism has informed his view of today’s political climate, calling out the president’s lies on TV and why the Clintons still owe Monica Lewinsky an apology. Talk about the genesis of the book. The first inspiration was learning about the actual Hellfire Club in the 1700s in England, finding out Ben Franklin went there and how it worked, having mutually shared destructive info on each other. That was the catalyst. I’ve always been fascinated by the '50s, I parked it there … [Read more...] about CNN’s Jake Tapper Talks New Novel and Why the Clintons Still “Owe Monica Lewinsky an Apology”
