Droughtlander is nearly over as Starz has set the premiere date for Outlander ‘s seventh season for Friday, June 16, at midnight ET via streaming and internationally on the Lionsgate+ premium streaming platform in the UK. For linear viewers, the show premieres on the same day, at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S. New episodes will be released weekly Fridays. The extended 16-episode season will be split into two parts of eight episodes each, with the second half of the series inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international bestsellers premiering in 2024. Apple TV+ has set the premiere date and offered a first look at Platonic , the upcoming 10-episode comedy series starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen . Co-created, directed, and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the half-hour comedy is set to make its global debut with the first three episodes Wednesday, May 24, 2023 on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes weekly every Wednesday. Platonic follows a pair of former best friends (Rogen and Byrne) approaching midlife who reconnect after a long rift. The duo’s friendship becomes all-consuming — and destabilizes their lives. The ensemble cast includes Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Carla Gallo and Andrew Lopez. Platonic is produced by Sony Pictures Television, where Stoller and Stoller’s Global Solutions has an overall deal. Mahfouz Doss , an award-winning Egyptian journalist who was a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( HFPA ) and nine-time board member, has died. No details on the cause, date of death, or location were provided. “We are incredibly saddened at the passing of Mahfouz Doss,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the HFPA. “He was a true pioneer of the HFPA, having joined the association in 1959 when the ceremonies were held at the famous Cocoanut Grove Club at the Ambassador Hotel. Fox is doubling down on a pair of freshman crime dramas. The network has renewed both Accused and Alert : Missing Persons Unit for second seasons. Both shows come from Sony Pictures Television. The renewal of Howard Gordon’s crime anthology series Accused was expected, given that it opened strong with a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.4M viewers on live+same day data and grew to more than 11.3M multi-platform viewers and a 2.3 rating in the demo in the three days after its premiere, making it broadcast’s highest-rated debut in nearly two years, since the premiere of NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime in April 2021. Fox just announced Season 2 renewals for two freshman drama series, anthology Accused and missing person drama Alert: Missing Persons Unit , both from Sony Pictures TV and Fox Entertainment. They join previously renewed sophomore drama The Cleaning Lady as well as animated stalwarts The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers . That leaves dramas 9-1-1 , 9-1-1: Lone Star , The Resident and Fantasy Island and comedies Animal Control , Call Me Kat and Welcome Flatch on the live-action side.
