ViacomCBS -owned fight circuit Bellator MMA will have its matches air on corporate cousin Showtime as the premium network continues to ramp up its investment in ring sports. On three straight Fridays in April, primetime Bellator matches originating from Mohegan Sun Arena in southeastern Connecticut will inaugurate the relationship. The arena is part of a casino complex that has gradually reopened parts of its footprint with safety restrictions. It recently staged “bubble”-style NCAA college basketball games, a concept considered by many sports stakeholders during the coronavirus pandemic. Together, Bellator MMA and Showtime have held more than 20 live events at Mohegan Sun since July 2020. The BBC and AMC’s SundanceTV have renewed Sister relationship series The Split for a third and final season. Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan, Annabel Scholey, Fiona Button, Deborah Findlay and Chukwudi Iwuji are all set to reprise their roles in the drama, which is set in the fast-paced, complex world of London’s high-end divorce circuit. Created and written by The Iron Lady scribe Abi Morgan, Season 3 has attached Dee Koppang O’Leary (Bridgerton, The Crown) as lead director. Little Chick co-produces the drama with Sister. The streamer has ordered Own the Room from directors Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster and National Geographic Documentary Films. The film follows five young students on their journey to win one of the world’s most prestigious competitions for fledgling entrepreneurs in Macau, China. Launching on March 12, the doc follows the five students as they compete in the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards. The show, which will not be live from the Santa Monica Beach this year due to Covid, has tapped SNL’s Melissa Villaseñor to host this year’s 2021 edition. Villaseñor, who cut her teeth on the stand-up circuit here in Los Angeles, and was further propelled by being a semifinalist on the 2011 edition of America’s Got Talent before landing on the SNL cast, is famed for her impersonations of such celebrities as Owen Wilson, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and more. A ray of sunshine about Disney’s theme park business and optimistic expectations ahead of the company’s quarterly earnings report on Thursday helped boost the company’s shares 5% to record territory. The stock closed Monday at $190, up 5%, after reports that the company planned to re-hire up to 1,000 workers to help it host a food and drink festival at California Adventure in March. Outdoor dining was permitted to resume by the state last week. Few specifics were revealed about the festival, which was reported by media outlets including Good Morning America and the Los Angeles Times but not formally announced by parks officials. Theme parks, historically a revenue-producing juggernaut for the company, have been on their knees, with 28,000 workers let go during Covid-19.
