NBC News’ Chuck Todd repeatedly cut off White House counselor and Bowling Green Massacre Truther Kellyanne Conway when she tried to change the subject by attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI) during an interview about immigration. On Sunday morning’s edition of Meet the Press, Todd pressed Conway at length about Trump’s latest immigration maneuver — his threat to send migrants to so-called sanctuary cities — as well as his past machinations on the issue. Todd asked Conway how Trump is “playing a constructive role in this” immigration discussion, and cited Trump’s government shutdown, his national emergency declaration, his threat to shut the border, and his latest threat about sanctuary cities. Conway responded by naming some of the other policies that Trump supports, then tried to change the subject by saying “I think the rough rhetoric this week, respectfully, came from the other side.” “You have, there’s this … [Read more...] about Chuck Todd Repeatedly Scolds Kellyanne Conway for Trying to Attack Rep. CNN’s Chris Cuomo is the subject of a profile by The Hollywood Reporter this week, and it has been buzzy already, for both his general take on himself (“testing others is my commodity”) and his defense of lengthy Kellyanne Conway interviews. But one thing of note, particularly at Mediaite, is that he laid a few light burns on some of his competitors; among them, NBC’s Chuck Todd. Among his other roles at NBC News and MSNBC, Todd is of course the host of the venerable Meet the Press. Cuomo offered a comparison with CNN’s own Jake Tapper, who on Sundays hosts the competing State of the Union. When asked about network shows, Cuomo was apparently dismissive of their larger ratings, arguing cable has more influence. “I would argue that Chuck Todd ain’t Jake Tapper. Jake Tapper has a much bigger footprint in politics than Chuck Todd does.” He added that, with President Donald Trump being a “power-watcher” of cable news, that’s … [Read more...] about CNN’s Chris Cuomo Disses NBC’s Chuck Todd: He ‘Ain’t Jake Tapper’
Donald Trump‘s latest attacks on the press drew a strong rebuke from conservative The View co-host Abby Huntsman, who called out several Trump-world figures over their own relationships with “alternative facts.” On Tuesday’s edition of ABC’s The View, host Whoopi Goldberg introduced a segment by slamming the Trump campaign memo to TV producers identifying which guests they should not book, as well as Trump’s most recent “enemy of the people” attack on the press. Goldberg said that an “enemies list” like the Trump campaign memo is “out of the fascists’ playbook,” and that “You want to be careful naming people the enemy of the people.” Huntsman then asked, “Should we block White House folks that come on show and say alternative facts?” — A reference to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway‘s infamous rebranding of provable falsehoods. “Or, according to Rudy Giuliani, … [Read more...] about Abby Huntsman Decries Trump’s Media ‘Hit List’: Should We Block Kellyanne From Saying ‘Alternative Facts’?
By DAVID BAUDER NEW YORK (AP) — Television pundits moved swiftly to correct or challenge President Donald Trump following Tuesday’s Oval Office speech on the proposed border wall, after their networks were the target of an unusual debate over whether they should show him at all. “Just because you say it’s a crisis doesn’t necessarily make it one,” ABC White House correspondent Cecilia Vega said following the president’s address. Some network critics had essentially made the same point in arguing for a television boycott, along with saying the president couldn’t be trusted with the truth. It’s rare, but not unprecedented, for networks to say no to a presidential request for airtime. But refusing to air Trump’s first Oval Office address as president, in the midst of a government shutdown over the funding fight, would have been seen as a provocative act in itself. So the four major broadcasters and cable news networks showed him, … [Read more...] about Facing pressure, networks fact-check Trump speech
As 2018 draws to a close, ’tis the season for year-end roundups. But rather than simply rehash the same ten viral moments that every other list will feature, I have compiled a set of clips that features a mixture of moments that may or may not have blown up, but which stuck with me throughout the year for a variety of reasons. Most are of things that happened this year, and a few are gems from the past that I dug up in 2018. In that spirit, here are my personal favorite 13 of news-related clips of the year. 1. “Commander of Cheese” In a year that featured plenty of bad Trump-related news, millions of us got a much-needed laugh when Kellyanne Conway inadvertently called her cheddar-colored boss the “Commander of Cheese” during an interview with CNN’s John Berman. 2. Come for the Blood-Stained Killing Fields, Stay for the Beautiful Long Island Weather When Chris Hayes asked Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) if he agrees with Trump that his district is a … [Read more...] about Kellyanne Conway Had The Funniest Gaffe of 2018, Plus 12 Other Amazing Media Moments This Year
