GLAAD has released its 18th annual “Where We Are on TV” report. It counted 596 regular and recurring LGBTQ characters across broadcast, cable and streaming shows that have been released (or are expected to) between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023. This is a decrease of -6.44% from the previous year’s 637 LGBTQ characters. Streaming continues to dominate with 356 LGBTQ characters on Apple TV+, Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock, and Paramount+ vs. 141 LGBTQ characters on broadcast, and 139 LGBTQ characters on cable. All broadcast networks saw a decrease in their percentage of LGBTQ series regulars from the previous report. The CW remains on top with 14.8 percent of all series regulars being LGBTQ. Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Terry Crews has been tapped as the lead and also will executive produce JumpStart , CBS ’ multi-camera comedy pilot based on Robb Armstrong’s long-running comic strip. Wayne Conley ( The Best Man) penned the TV adaptation for the project from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV and CBS Studios. Phill Lewis will direct and executive produce the pilot, replacing Kelly Park due to changes in the production schedule; Park is directing NBC’s comedy pilot Non-Evil Twin instead. Based on the popular comic strip that debuted in 1989, JumpStart is set in Philadelphia and follows Joseph L. Cobb (Crews), a cop, his wife Marcy, a nurse, and Joe’s partner Crunchy. Keanu Reeves reprised his role of John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 4 but don’t expect the star to say a lot. A report from The Wall Street Journal counted all the words Wick uttered throughout the film and he seemingly didn’t have a lot to say, but there was a whole lot to see. The fourth installment of the John Wick saga clocks in at 169 minutes and Reeves says only 380 words throughout the film directed by Chad Stahelski. Almost a third of Wick’s dialogue consists of just one word like, “Yeah.” “In the first installment, clocking in at 101 minutes, Mr. Reeves said a total of 484 words,” WSJ reported. “With a run time of 169 minutes, the fourth movie pushes three hours but features just 380 words by Wick. Kathy Whitworth , who won more golf tournaments than any man or woman on U.S. tours, died Saturday. She was 83 and collapsed at a neighborhood Christmas party at Flower Mound, Texas, where she lived, according to Christina Lance, an LPGA spokeswoman. Whitworth’s 88 tour victories saw her as the Ladies Pro Golfing Assn. tour’s leading money winner eight times. She became the first woman pro to win more than $1 million in prize money, and earned more than $1.7 million lifetime in an era when purses were modest. Tiger Woods, with 82 victories on the PGA Tour, is the only active golfer anywhere near Whitworth’s total.
