The City of Los Angeles currently is in a “strong financial position” but is facing a “financial bind” and will need to make “tough choices” in the next budget, according to City Controller Ron Galperin . “The pandemic hit the economy and our neighborhoods hard last year, putting the city in a financial bind,” he said upon the release of L.A.’s annual report for fiscal year 2021, which ended June 30. “Cost-cutting measures and federal funding helped Los Angeles get back on solid ground, but there are tough budget choices ahead.” See the full report here . Wednesday primetime was a pretty tame one with NBC’s Chicago trio and ABC’s sitcom slate in reruns. Instead of the NBC series topping primetime ratings, as they tend to do, Wednesday belonged to CBS with its broadcast of Let’s Make a Deal. Per fast affiliates, the game show hosted by Wayne Brady earned a 0.6 rating the 18-49 demo and 4.37 million viewers, the night’s highest numbers in both measures. Let’s Make a Deal bested a repeats of Chicago Med andThe Goldbergs, and I Can See Your Voice (0.4, 2.03M) on Fox, which all tied in demo rating. The lowest-rated and least-watched program of the 9 p.m. hour was The CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (0.1, 0.59M). Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to a TV adaptation of Ryan Parrott’s comic book Dead Day . The series comes from Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson . The pair will serve as co-showrunners and writers on the series, which comes from Universal Television and Aftershock Media. It reunites Plec and Williamson, who developed The Vampire Diaries, which ran for eight seasons on The CW. Dead Day follows an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business — be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living. The comics, which were published in 2020 by Aftershock Comics, follow the Haskins, a seemingly normal suburban family as they prepare for the zombie debauchery. Adam Driver and Kanye West will lead off Saturday Night Live’s 44th season as its host and musical guest when it premieres on September 29th. The show announced the news via a tweet on Monday showing the celebrities’ names pinned to a corkboard. It will be Driver’s second time hosting and West’s seventh appearance as a musical guest on the show. Earlier this year, Driver appeared in BlacKkKlansman as a Jewish cop who posed as a white supremacist that his black partner had invented to infiltrate a Colorado Springs chapter of the KKK . He also appeared as Toby in Terry Gilliam’s long-in-the-works The Man Who Killed Don Quixote , which premiered at Cannes this year and has yet to get a wide release. Mel Rodriguez is exiting CBS’ CSI: Vegas as a series regular ahead of Season 2, Deadline has confirmed. He is the latest star to announce his departure following Jorja Fox and William Petersen . Rodriguez lplayed Chief Medical Examiner Hugo Ramirez in Season 1. It is unknown if he will make occasional appearances in the future. TV Line was the first to announce Rodriguez’s exit from the sequel to the groundbreaking 2000 series. Petersen revealed last month that he would not reprise the role of Gil Grissom beyond Season 1’s 10 episodes. He will continue to serve as executive producer of the show’s sophomore season. Comedian Michael Rapaport returns as guest host of the syndicated daytime talker beginning Monday, January 31, through Friday, February 4. Fat Joe and Remy Ma also make a return appearance as they take over the reins beginning Monday, February 7, through Friday, February 11, followed by Bevy Smith and Terrence J, who make their co-hosting debut, from Monday, February 14 through Friday, February 18, and Sherri Shepherd from February 21, through February 25.
