First, the money: She gets more than $5 million. Plus, she gets the couple's 2012 Toyota Highlander and one of the family homes. But who cares, because the real story here is BOB DYLAN'S HAIR. According to the divorce docs, the couple owns an asset described as "Bob Dylan Hair." It's unclear how the hair was obtained ... when it was obtained ... if the hair contains any product ... etc. -- but the point is, Dan agreed to part ways with it in the divorce. Translation -- Stephanie, congrats ... you are the owner of a weird freaky piece of music memorabilia!!!! ‘It Doesn’t Feel Dark to Me’: PJ Harvey on Her Surreal New Novel, Growing Older, and the Beauty of Ugliness
In Orlam, the surrealistic new novel written in poetic verse by alt-rock firebrand Polly Jean Harvey, a nine-year-old girl named Ira-Abel, in England’s Dorset region, swoons over ghosts and encounters real-life villains, all as foretold by her village’s oracle, Orlam, the eviscerated eye of Ira’s pet lamb. Harvey, who was once a nine-year-old Dorset girl herself, wrote the entire work in the region’s dialect — rendering words like “grievance” as “engripement” and “hot” as “hetful” — which makes the whole story even more delightfully strange. (She also included a standard-English translation of the book, which comes out in the U.S. on Aug. 1 .) Although she previously published another book of poetry, The Hollow of the Hand , in 2015, Harvey has since honed her skills under the mentorship of Scottish poet Don Paterson for a period of three years, during which she developed many of the ideas in Orlam . “Learning the craft of poetry writing seemed to be a very natural … [Read more...] about ‘It Doesn’t Feel Dark to Me’: PJ Harvey on Her Surreal New Novel, Growing Older, and the Beauty of Ugliness
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Answers Your Twitter Questions
Although Red Hot Chili Peppers member Chad Smith and his doppelgänger Will Ferrell may have spent much of 2014 trying to prove how different they are from one another, with their hilarious competition on The Tonight Show , the drummer does have something in common with the actor: he’s very funny. As Rolling Stone read the drummer the questions fans sent in via Twitter, he cracked wise about everything from the Chili Peppers’ penchant for wearing socks on their private parts to how Ferrell “robbed” him of the Golden Cowbell during his drum-off with the actor this year. Over the past quarter century, Smith has played with the Chili Peppers, the supergroup Chickenfoot and various sessions with the likes of Kid Rock, the Dixie Chicks and Johnny Cash. And, with an eye toward helping other musicians, he has also spent time lobbying for music education in Washington, D.C. – including a recent trip to the White House – and building a drum community with his Chad Smith Drum … [Read more...] about Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Answers Your Twitter Questions
Beyoncé Is Probably Not Your Anti-Capitalist Savior
“I just quit my job,” Beyoncé sings — in character, of course — on her new, house-influenced single “ Break My Soul .” “They work me so damn hard/Work by nine, then off by past five/And they work my nerves/That’s why I cannot sleep at night.” Numerous fans on Twitter and elsewhere got excited — perhaps too excited — and declared it an “anti-capitalist anthem.” But as Mankaprr Conteh points out on the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now , it’s quite unlikely that Beyoncé — a monumentally successful artist and businesswoman whose husband has, needless to say, also seen more than his share of capitalist triumphs — has turned against the economic system in which she’s thrived. ( T o hear the whole episode, listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or press play above.) “I think that’s a stretch,” Conteh says. “It’s nice to think that Beyoncé is a voice for the everyday person who is struggling to make ends meet or struggling to thrive in a job that they may not love. … [Read more...] about Beyoncé Is Probably Not Your Anti-Capitalist Savior
John Hinckley Jr. Tells ‘CBS Mornings’ No Concerts Planned; Apologizes To Jodie Foster, Shooting Victims’ Families
No upcoming concerts for John Hinckley Jr., it seems. In his first television interview since his unconditional release this month, the man who shot President Ronald Reagan in an attempted assassination attempt told CBS Mornings today that his three recently canceled singer-songwriter performances at venues in Brooklyn, Chicago and Connecticut won’t be rescheduled in what correspondent Major Garrett said was the “foreseeable future.” Watch the interview above. Also during the interview, Hinckley publicly apologized to the families of his shooting victims – Ronald Regan, press secretary James Brady, Secret Service Agent Tim McCarthy and police officer Thomas Delahanty – and “to Jodie Foster for bringing her into this.” On March 30, 1981, Hinckley, then 25, carried out the shooting outside the Washington Hilton as the president walked to his limousine. He later said that he was motivated by a delusional obsession to try to impress actress Foster. Garrett said on … [Read more...] about John Hinckley Jr. Tells ‘CBS Mornings’ No Concerts Planned; Apologizes To Jodie Foster, Shooting Victims’ Families
