Doth Ewan McGregor protest too much? At Sunday's Golden Globes, the actor briefly addressed increased chatter about a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoff, saying, "There’s a lot of talk, and I’d be happy to play him again, but I don’t know anything more than you do." This came after a photo of McGregor training (and sporting a very Kenobi-like beard) circulated online, prompting new rounds of speculation following news breaking in August that Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry was in early talks to helm a film starring the character. McGregor starred in the Star Wars prequels as Kenobi from 1999-2005, and back in August, there was no word on an actor being attached to the project. This will be a controversial opinion, but hear it out: Hayden Christensen should return as Anakin Skywalker for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. At least, that's the argument writer and critic Chris Hartwell lays out in a new video essay, which chronicles how the return could actually enhance the current trilogy — even for those most opposed to the prequels. After all, it's now canon that yes, Christensen and not original Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi actor Sebastian Shaw, is the definitive Anakin Force ghost thanks to some tinkering from George Lucas. In honor of Star Wars Day, the team at Ranker Insights has prepared some data for Heat Vision about the most popular Star Wars characters, and has even broken them down on a state-by-state basis. First, here's the most popular: 1. Obi-Wan Kenobi No. 1 is a little surprising. Who knew Darth Vader or Han Solo would play second fiddle to Obi-Wan? And Luke and Leia don't even crack the top 5. Now, check out which character is is most popular, by state. A few notable findings: Maine is the only state where Rey rules, and Montana is the only Darth Maul stronghold. The West Coast is fixated on Han Solo, while Washington, D.C., is among the places where Darth Vader is lord (perhaps appropriate, as Steve Bannon did once reveal his admiration for the Sith lord.) Four months before the film hits theaters, Lucasfilm has kicked off their marketing for their upcoming flick. Just the second of their Star Wars anthologies, the prequel blockbuster will take fans back in time to when everyone’s favorite nerf herder was still learning his conniving ways around the galaxy. An official Solo synopsis may have been released, but nothing significant was revealed. We already know that the project, in which Alden Ehrenreich debuts as the younger incarnation of Harrison Ford’s iconic character, will also include younger versions of Lando Calrissian played by Donald Glover and Chewbacca, but we’re still uncertain what narrative specifics the movie is going to tread.
