Associated Press Published 11:12 AM EST Dec 19, 2018 New York – President Donald Trump is lashing out at New York Democrats over their efforts to shut down his charitable foundation. Trump tweeted Wednesday that his foundation has “done great work and given away lots of money.” New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced Tuesday that the foundation would dissolve while it fights a state lawsuit accusing it of illegally operating like an extension of Trump’s businesses and political campaign. Trump said Underwood “does little else but rant, rave & politic against me.” He called former state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman a “sleazebag.” And he complained that the state’s attorney general-elect, Letitia James, “openly campaigned on a GET TRUMP agenda.” Trump also criticized New York Gov. Attorney General Barbara Underwood and the foundation filed a joint stipulation with the court Tuesday laying out a process for shutting down the charity and distributing its remaining assets to other nonprofit groups. Lawyers for the foundation say any infractions were minor. They say they have been trying to shut down the foundation voluntarily for months. A judge must still sign off on the agreement. Underwood is a Democrat and is seeking millions of dollars in penalties. She wants Trump and his eldest children barred from running other charities. … [Read more...] about Trump Foundation reaches deal to dissolve amid lawsuit

Erik Larson Bloomberg Published 3:34 PM EST Nov 23, 2018 President Donald Trump’s claim that a New York lawsuit against his personal charitable foundation was motivated by political bias of the state attorney general’s office was rejected by a judge. New York State Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla on Friday denied a request from Trump and his foundation to dismiss the suit in which the president and his three eldest children are accused of engaging in a decade-long pattern of self-dealing and using the nonprofit’s funds for political purposes. The lawsuit is one of the most serious legal challenges facing Trump and his family. Unless an appeals court blocks the attorney general, the process of uncovering evidence will allow the state’s lawyers to reach deep into the Trump family’s financial dealings, where some of the president’s critics believe there will be evidence of yearslong improprieties. Scarpulla said it isn’t the job of … [Read more...] about Trump’s NY AG bias claim rejected in Foundation suit
