AMC Entertainment announced it has closed a $600 million strategic investment from Silver Lake , a tech-oriented investment firm, and will use part of the proceeds to buy back Class B common shares owned by the Dalian Wanda Group. The deal will give Silver Lake, which has stakes in companies including Alibaba, Tesla and Endeavor, a seat on the board of the top exhibitor. AMC will also add a new independent director “with significant technology experience and knowledge, with support from Silver Lake,” the announcement said. The transaction signals a retreat from the U.S. movie theater business for the Chinese conglomerate Wanda, which took control of AMC in 2012 in a $2.6 billion deal. World Wrestling Entertainment said Tuesday an independent board probe of former CEO Vince McMahon showed additional unrecorded payments of $5 million, bringing the total to $19.6 million. McMahon resigned from all positions at WWE on July 22 after news broke and the company acknowledged they were investigating him for misconduct and subsequent payouts to women. He remains a stockholder with a controlling interest in the company. Last month — WWE noted in an SEC filing today — it determined that certain payments McMahon made from 2006 through 2022 (including amounts paid and payable in the future totaling $14.6 million) “were not appropriately recorded as expenses in the company’s consolidated financial statements. Peter Chernin has found his new CFO. Chernin’s The North Road Company , which was formed after he paid around $200M for the U.S. assets of Red Arrow Studios, has hired former JPMorgan Chase Darian Singer in the role. He will lead the integration of North Road assets and oversee the development of North Road infrastructure as it looks to grow further. He reports to Chernin, who is Chairman and CEO of North Road. Singer was most recently Managing Director within JPMorgan Chase’s Entertainment Industries Group, which he joined in 2011. He was previously with Union Bank and Dresdner Kleinwort.
