After one episode of Danny Brocklehurst’s family drama, Come Home, the mood was awkward but not despondent. Episode one, remember, focused on Greg (Christopher Eccleston), the single dad with three kids who was holding down a job at the garage and trying his hand at internet dating. That was all comic enough. His small talk was about how he wasn’t a psychopath. So that didn’t go well. Then he fell in with Brenna (Kerri Quinn), the sparky woman with the filled-rolls van who he rescued when she was getting a battering from her psychopath boyfriend outside the pub. True, there were clues about Brenna — specifically the bit where she suggested that Greg’s children might like to try some drugs — but there was good humour too. Oh, and the bit where Greg sneaked round to his estranged wife’s new house and had a sniff of her underwear drawer before being forced to hide in the shower while her friend had a pee.
