Hello again, Star Wars fans, it's been a hot minute since we last spoke, no? Actually, it hasn't. In fact, it was just yesterday when we'd received word that Pedro Pascal had been cast as the lead for Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN, an upcoming Star Wars television series destined for Disney's exclusive streaming service, Disney+. With the GAME OF THRONES alum set to lead the new endeavor, it is my pleasure to inform you that DEADPOOL and FURIOUS 6 badass Gina Carano has recently joined the cast as well. The fitness model and former mixed martial artist turned actress who once landed a solid fist to Colossus' kettlebells is yet another exciting get for the series penned and executive produced by SWINGERS and IRON MAN director Jon Favreau. Her role in the upcoming space adventure is being kept under wraps for the moment, though we have been informed that the series will take place after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. From Sonic Screwdriver to Lightsaber, it looks like Matt Smith (Doctor Who) will be heading to a galaxy far, far away as Variety has reported that the actor will be joining the cast of STAR WARS: EPISODE IX. As expected, the nature of Matt Smith's character in the film is being kept under wraps but it's said to be a "key role." Resistance? First Order? Alien? Jedi? Sith? Let the guessing game begin. Matt Smith recently played Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in the first two seasons of Netflix's The Crown, and even scored an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Smith will be joining John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joona Suotamo, and Billie Lourd in the film, who will all be returning for the final installment of the Skywalker Saga along with Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher. Smith's fellow STAR WARS-newbies include Naomi Ackie (Doctor … [Read more...] about Matt Smith joins the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX for a key role
Lost fandom as if their wildest reunion dreams have come true: Charlie Pace himself is re-teaming with JJ Abrams for Star Wars: Episode IX. Dominic Monaghan, best known for his role as Merry in Lord Of The Rings, as well as his turn on Lost, has joined the cast in an exclusive published by Deadline. Monaghan has expressed a desire to join Abrams in the past; he told Deadline: “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved.” Of course, it’s time to speculate who he’ll be playing. We can probably rule out him being Rey’s family, as well as Grand Admiral Thrawn, despite the fact that it is a truth universally acknowledged in Star Wars fandom that everyone cast in the new movies is either Rey’s mom, Thrawn, or Snoke. The fact he’s a Brit points to a possible First Order alignment, as most villains come with a British accent in this universe. However, I am choosing to speculate that … [Read more...] about Dominic Monaghan Joins Cast of Star Wars, Is Definitely Not Playing Thrawn or Rey’s Mom
Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have announced the official cast for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX and there are some surprises! Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. New cast members include Naomi Ackie (Doctor Who) and Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Hudson Hawk). They will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. The most surprising news is that there is unused footage of Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa that will be used in the film! Director J.J. Abrams had this to say in a statement: "We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we … [Read more...] about The Cast of STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Announced! The force is apparently quite strong with FREE STATE OF JONES and DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES actress Keri Russell. According to Variety, the RUNNING WIDE alum is in early talks to join the cast of J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE IX. The role that Russell is considering would require her to perform action-heavy fight scenes, which we all know that she's more than capable of playing after seeing her kick ass in projects like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III and THE AMERICANS. The search for an additional female cast member to be added to STAR WARS: EPISODE IX began roughly two months ago, with the studio setting their sights on Russell just before the Fourth of July holiday. Two more cast members are expected to join the on-going space opera before the project rolls into production at the end of this month. Of course, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver have already been confirmed to return for the third film in the latest Star Wars trilogy. For the moment, we … [Read more...] about Keri Russell is in early talks to join the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX
