Sony Hacking Lawsuit Claims ID Theft Already Happening To Ex-Employees
Thousands of dollars in unauthorized credit card charges, attempts to open accounts under their names, and personal data showing up all over the Internet are just a few of the claims that Michael Corona, Christina Mathis and others are making in court documents filed last week. The former Sony Pictures staff members are saying that some of the things they were most afraid of happening as a result of the massive hack that savaged the company late last year have already happened. The lawsuit comes less than a month after Sony failed in its attempt to get the consolidated case tossed. “Class members are at a heightened risk of credit card fraud, financial identity fraud, medical identity fraud, social identity fraud, and income tax fraud,” noted a memorandum ( read it here ) backing up the eight plaintiffs’ desire to get class action certification on their case. “Not surprisingly, several of the plaintiffs have already been victims of identity fraud. Sony Fails To Get Employees’ Hacking Attack Lawsuit Dismissed
Sony Pictures Entertainment got some of what it wanted in its motion to dismiss, but still has to face claims of negligence that its security wasn’t sufficient to protect past and present employee’s private information from ending up all over the World Wide Web. Long story short – Sony is facing more fallout from last fall’s massive hack, this time in court. “Plaintiffs …allege that based on prior data breaches at other Sony companies and audits of Sony’s own security systems, specifically with regard to human resource records, it was foreseeable that a data breach would occur and that Plaintiffs’ would suffer harm,” wrote Judge Gary Klausner in an order dated June 15 ( read it here ). “Nonetheless, Sony made a business decision to not expend the money needed to shore up its system, and instead to accept the risk of a security breach. As a result, of Sony’s failure to maintain an adequate security system and timely notify Plaintiffs of the breach, Plaintiffs suffered the injury … [Read more...] about Sony Fails To Get Employees’ Hacking Attack Lawsuit Dismissed
Universal Wants “Needless” Bond Copyright Suit From MGM & 007 Producer Tossed
In a move that comes as about as much as a surprise as James Bond liking his martini shaken not stirred, Universal today responded to the multi-claim Section 6 lawsuit from MGM and Bond producer Danjaq with a request that the federal court throw out the “threadbare allegations about hypothetical future infringement in works yet to be produced.” In fact, Universal accuses MGM and Danjaq of using the possibility of their Aaron Berg -written WWI-themed pic about the formation of the UK’s MI6 as a pretense for larger aims. “In an effort to claim an unfounded monopoly on the British spy genre, and to scare away Universal and any other would-be competitors to James Bond , Plaintiffs rushed to file this needless action,” notes today’s filing ( read it here ). Berg himself has also filed a heavily redacted motion for dismissal (read it here ) for his “undeniably original creative work.” This latest move from entertainment legal mastermind Bert Fields and … [Read more...] about Universal Wants “Needless” Bond Copyright Suit From MGM & 007 Producer Tossed
