Spider-Man: Far from Home has officially joined the box office $1 billion club. The final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 3 is also the third movie from Marvel Studios to cross the $1 billion mark globally this year and the 41st movie to do so overall. In addition, even before hitting the box office achievement, Far From Home was already the most successful of any of the previous Spider-Man movies. If all of that wasn't enough, the sequel is now Sony's second highest grossing movie of all time, just behind Skyfall ($1.109 billion). Spider-Man: Far From Home was able to hit the box office milestone less than a month after hitting theaters and many predicted it would get up past $1 billion globally after it debuted. With that being said, the sequel should be able to beat Skyfall in the coming weeks to become Sony's highest grossing movie of all time. The close ties to Avengers: Endgame ended up helping out both movies in the end. Woodstock: ‘It Was Like Balling for the First Time’
WOODSTOCK , N.Y. — Chicago was only the labor pains. With a joyous three-day shriek, the inheritors of the earth came to life in an alfalfa field outside the village of Bethel, New York. Slapping the spark of life into the newborn was American rock and roll music provided by the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. And Dylan’s Mr. Jones, who has, indeed, been aware of what is happening, but has preferred to denounce the immorality of fucking around with his values, is now forced to acknowledge both the birth and its legitimacy. The New York Times , which had given the story front-page coverage for three days running, thundered on its editorial page the Monday-after that it was “an outrageous episode” and demanded to know “what kind of culture it is that can produce so colossal a mess?” But, in a reversal astounding for that Establishment journal, a second editorial Tuesday sheepishly allowed that the gathering was “essentially a phenomenon of innocence . . . they came, it seems, to … [Read more...] about Woodstock: ‘It Was Like Balling for the First Time’
Lawyer Seeks Sexual Abuse Investigation Against T.I. and Tiny
A lawyer representing nearly a dozen people is calling for a sexual abuse investigation against rapper T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris. In a letter sent to state and federal authorities in Georgia and California, lawyer Tyrone A. Blackburn, who is representing the 11 “victimized” people, alleged “sexual abuse, forced ingestion of illegal narcotics, kidnapping, terroristic threats and false imprisonment” against the rapper (birth name Clifford Harris) and his wife spanning from 2005 to 2018, the New York Times reports . Five of the victims cited in the letters claimed they were raped or sexually assaulted by the couple. One of the women, a military veteran, says she was drugged by the couple after meeting them at a club; she was later taken to their hotel room — experiencing the effects of the alleged drugging — where she claimed Tiny bathed her and T.I., and the three then engaged in sex, during which the woman vomited. ‘SNL’: Weekend Update Tackles Stimulus Bill, CPAC, ‘Frasier’ Revival
Weekend Update tackled the House’s late-night passing of the Covid relief package as well as CPAC, the Frasier revival and the new Potato Head on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live . “Just like me when I’m drunk, Congress decided to spend a lot of money at 2:30 in the morning. They passed a $1.9 trillion spending bill, and Republicans are calling it ‘a liberal wishlist,'” co-anchor Colin Jost said. “I don’t know, I think a liberal wishlist would be avocado toast with Chrissy Teigen, free college for pets, and a hip-hop musical about Anderson Cooper starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.” However, one of the key components of the stimulus bill — a $15 minimum wage — did not make the cut , much to the delight of Senators Lindsey Graham and John Thune, the latter of whom boasted about earning $6 an hour at a restaurant as a “kid” 40 years and lots of inflation ago. ‘This Is a Play About Shades’: Jeremy O. Harris Revisits ‘Slave Play’ Script
After playwright Jeremy O. Harris’ hit show Slave Play had its final performance at the Golden Theatre on January 19th, 2020, he was applauded by some for changing the way audiences engaged with Broadway theater — but also found many detractors. Harris had insisted on being a co-producer of the show, made sure to offer more affordable tickets ( $39 rather than the average $124 ), and hosted a “Black Out” performance, which reserved all 804 seats for black students, performers, journalists, and artists. It seemed a shoe-in for Tony accolades, then the coronavirus pandemic shuttered Broadwa y and live performances around the globe. With everything in disarray, it was unclear whether the theater awards would happen due to the protracted season. Related Stories What It Took to Orchestrate 'Bad Romance' for 'Moulin Rouge!
