Outfest has announced the complete lineup for its 40th-anniversary Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ+ Film Festival , which will take place from July 14-24 at multiple locations throughout Los Angeles. More than 200 films, representing 29 countries, will screen as part of this year’s lineup. 42 will make their world premieres, including the doc Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story from Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films and Pulse Films; the UK feature Phea , starring Sherika Sherard; Mercedes Kane’s Art and Pep ; and Scout Durwood’s Youtopia. Robert Katz, a film and television producer best known for Gettysburg, Selena, and Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, died June 22 at the Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys following a long battle with lung cancer. He was 79 years old and his death was confirmed by his family. Katz was born February 7,1943 in Los Angeles, where he grew up, graduated high school, and attended college. Katz served in the US Marines as a jet fighter pilot. In the mid 1960s, he was detailed to Israel, where he helped to train the Israeli Air Force. Following his honorable discharge, he was a bush pilot in Africa, traveling with documentary film crews. This inspired him to become a filmmaker, producing more than 70 documentaries for French and American television about the wars of liberation in Africa, accompanying the independence forces in what is now Zimbabwe, as well as neighboring countries. EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. Television Group has announced the seven directors selected for the 2022 WBTV Directors’ Workshop. The 2022 edition will be the first in-person class of the workship since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The WBTV Directors’ Workshop launched in 2013 with the aim to discover new and innovative talent, to prepare directors from other creative fields (motion pictures, commercials, music videos, shortform content, etc.) for the transition to television, and to provide increased opportunities for women helmers and those from underrepresented groups. San Sebastian To Honor David Cronenberg With Donostia Award
The San Sebastian Film Festival will fete Canadian director and screenwriter David Cronenberg with its prestigious Donostia Award at the 70th edition, running 16-24 September. The filmmaker will receive the career achievement prize on September 21 at a ceremony in the festival’s main Victoria Eugenia Theatre, followed by a gala screening of controversial Cannes 2022 Palme d’Or contender Crimes of the Future . The body horror thriller – starring Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart – divided spectators in Cannes, prompting both walk-outs and a six-minute ovation. Cronenberg has only attended San Sebastian once before in his career with Eastern Promises , which was the opening film in 2007. UK LGBTQ +-focused distributor Peccadillo Pictures has claimed that Amazon Prime Video UK is refusing to make Canadian artist and filmmaker Bruce LaBruce’s provocative dark comedy Saint-Narcisse available on its online store. Company MD Tom Abell said its request to list the title on Amazon’s UK online offering had been turned down without explanation.
