Issa Rae has revealed she mandates that all of her sets are at least 60% diverse. The Golden Globe-nominated star and creator of Insecure disclosed the directive as she laid down a challenge to marketing and advertising personnel today as part of an impassioned discussion at the Cannes Lions conference about confronting bias in the industry. Rae said: “I still see (bias in the industry). Now there’s a public discourse about it, people can call it out and you can see the results. I do think that’s healthy. I find there’s a lot of lip service to changing it. “For me it’s about making the changes on my end. Now I have the mandate of making sure my sets are 60% diverse, and that comes from realising my own power. I can say no to a job if the crew is all white, which happens all the time. How is this still happening, and how do you want me to be your spokesperson for diversity when the people behind are not diverse? “I say, ‘I’d love to do this, but I just want to make … [Read more...] about Issa Rae Challenges Advertising Industry To Follow Her Mandate For More Diverse Sets: Cannes Lions 2022

More openly, Shell referred instead to his company’s partnership with Apple, which sees NBCU sell ads for the tech giant’s Apple News service, noting: “We spend a lot of money on our content and our whole goal is to find partners, … [Read more...] about NBCU’s Jeff Shell Keeps Cards Close To Chest On Rumoured Netflix Ad Deal, Talks Up Apple News Partnership – Cannes Lions

Netflix has laid off an additional 300 employees. The news Thursday comes after Deadline revealed in May that redundancies were underway, with an initial 150 positions eliminated as a result of the slowdown in the company’s revenue growth. “Today we sadly let go of around 300 employees,” a Netflix spokeswoman told Deadline. “While we continue to invest significantly in the business, we made these adjustments so that our costs are growing in line with our slower revenue growth. We are so grateful for everything they have done for Netflix and are working hard to support them through this difficult transition.” We’re hearing that the company’s legal and product divisions have been hit by this latest wave. Netflix has a global workforce of around 11,000. The latest layoffs come after Netflix lost 200,000 subscribers during its first quarter. It started making staff cuts in April with a number of staffers laid off at its fan site Tudum , before cutting roles in … [Read more...] about Netflix Axes Another 300 Staff, Taking Total Layoffs To More Than 450
