Sutton Foster , who stars opposite Hugh Jackman in the Broadway hit revival The Music Man , has tested positive for Covid for the second time since December and will miss performances until Wednesday, July 6. Jackman returned to the show on June 22 following his own second bout with the illness, which he announced the day after appearing with the cast on the June 12 Tony Awards. Both Jackman and Foster had previously tested positive for Covid back in December during the musical’s previews. “I’m so sorry to share this news,” said Foster, who plays librarian Marion Paroo in the production at the Winter Garden Theatre, in an Instagram video post yesterday, “but this morning I tested positive for COVID. But you’re all in good hands with Audrey Cardwell and Kathy Voutko as Marion Paroo. Love to everyone at the Winter Garden Theatre, and see you all soon.” See the video below. Beanie Feldstein, the star of Funny Girl, also recently missed some performances due … [Read more...] about Broadway’s ‘Music Man’ Star Sutton Foster Tests Covid-Positive For Second Time

The Many Cancellations of Elvis Presley
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably well aware that Baz Luhrmann ’s flashy Elvis biopic was released this week. It’s been hard to ignore the film’s major marketing push over the past month: a long standing ovation at Cannes, TikTok-creator sponsored content, a Doja Cat soundtrack cut, and the campaign to make Carrie Diaries star Austin Butler into a Brad Pitt-style heartthrob. In the thick of the promotion, the marketing push has led to re-fascination with Elvis Presley himself. Public interest had notably waned in the past couple decades. In a Rolling Stone piece two years ago, the King’s estate had been cooking up many ideas on how to rebuild slipping revenue streams and spark public interest in the star once more. Much like Bohemian Rhapsody had done for energizing Gen Z Queen/Freddie Mercury stans, they were probably banking on Elvis doing the same for another historical rock figure. This week’s episode of Don’t Let This Flop points out … [Read more...] about The Many Cancellations of Elvis Presley
‘The Paradigm Needs to Shift’: Why Pharrell Wants to Prep Marginalized Students for Tech Jobs
Like most weeks for Pharrell Williams , this one is packed. On Thursday, he and Neptunes co-producer Chad Hugo will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. This weekend, he’ll host the latest edition of his Something in the Water Festival. And then there’s his most philanthropic latest venture, announced today: helping underprivileged kids avoid low-paying jobs. As Williams sees it, Something in the Water isn’t just another music festival. It’s definitely that, of course: The lineup for the three-day event this Friday through Sunday in Washington, D.C. includes SZA, Lil Baby, Dave Matthews, Lil Uzi Vert, Calvin Harris, Tierra Whack, Roddy Ricch, Omar Apollo, and Run the Jewels. “It’s all kinds of music,” Williams says. “It’s American music.” Reflecting Williams’ legacy, clout and posse, the festival will also present Justin Timberlake and the onstage reunion of his one-time collaborators Clipse (“We’re super-excited about that — it’s our family, man,” he … [Read more...] about ‘The Paradigm Needs to Shift’: Why Pharrell Wants to Prep Marginalized Students for Tech Jobs

R Madhavan Clarifies His Panchang Remark On Mars Mission; Says ‘Very Ignorant Of Me’
It was ignorant on his part to say the 'panchang’, an ancient almanac based on planetary positions, was used by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to launch the Mars Orbiter Mission, actor R Madhavan said on Sunday in an effort to quell the online criticism against him. At a promotional event of his upcoming film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect in Chennai last week, Madhavan had said the 'panchang' has a celestial map of calculations on the positions of planets, how their gravitational forces act, its effects, the solar flares, etc. which was used while working towards inserting the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft into orbit in 2014. A video from the event went viral on social media over the weekend with many users calling out the actor, in response to which Madhavan tweeted: "I deserve this for calling the Almanac the 'Panchang' in tamil. Very ignorant of me. Though this cannot take away for the fact that what was achieved with just 2 engines by us in the Mars … [Read more...] about R Madhavan Clarifies His Panchang Remark On Mars Mission; Says ‘Very Ignorant Of Me’

GOP House Candidate Doubts Likelihood of Pregnancy After Rape
Republican congressional nominee Yesli Vega last month downplayed the likelihood of a woman becoming pregnant via sexual assault in audio recordings obtained by Axios. Vega, who is running against incumbent Abigail Spanberger in Virginia’s liberal-leaning 7th District, has been a vocal opponent of abortion rights. Here's the audio clip in question: pic.twitter.com/0k6iBA2bUA — Ned Oliver (@nedoliver) June 27, 2022 In the audio, an unidentified source asks Vega if she’d heard that women who are sexually assaulted are less likely to become pregnant because their body “shuts down” in some way. Vega responded “maybe” because “there’s so much going on in the body.” “I don’t know,” she continued. “I haven’t, you know, seen any studies. But if I’m processing what you’re saying, it wouldn’t surprise me. Because it’s not something that’s happening organically. You’re forcing it. The individual, the male, is doing it as quickly … and so I can see why there is … [Read more...] about GOP House Candidate Doubts Likelihood of Pregnancy After Rape
