Susan Tompor Detroit Free Press Published 8:18 AM EDT Jun 20, 2019 We've had the "one ring" phone scam, the fake IRS phone calls, the scam that tricks you into thinking that your Social Security number has been connected to some car in Texas that was involved with running drugs across the border. And now we have the "Can you do me a favor?" scam. Sure, you're thinking "Hey, I know quite a few folks who ask for favors and run that scam everyday." But trust us, this one has a new twist. Welcome to part two of many for a series that highlights some tools that you can use to play Dungeons & Dragons. Last week, all the tools I highlighted were geared towards playing a game online. This week, I wanted to explore tools that are helpful when playing online but can also help if you meet with your group in person. Let’s get started: D&D Beyond I saw some comments about why I didn’t include this in the first article, but it’s simply because you don’t need D&D Beyond to play online. In its current state D&D Beyond is fantastic for character sheet management and just having digital copies of all the books. Of course, you can create and find homebrew content as well. In the future, D&D Beyond is very promising as they’re currently working on an encounter builder and I think I’ve also seen that they’re working on creating something similar to Roll20. Let’s say you want to play Dungeons & Dragons, but none of your local friends want to play. However, your best friends who live across the country are wanting to try this classic tabletop RPG with you. How can this work? It’s not like you each hop on a game console and play via Xbox Live or PSN. Well, there’s a wonderful thing called the internet and it is full of tools to help you play D&D, or almost any RPG really, with your friends online. There are to sets of tools I want to talk about. Tools that are only useful playing online and tools that are great online or offline. I’m going to talk about the online only tools here, so be on the lookout for a follow-up where I talk about the other tools that I use as a player and DM for online groups. I know that there are many other tools out there and more are in the works, but these are the ones that I’ve used or heard of the most. What do you use to play with your online friends? Roll20 Roll20 is a … [Read more...] about Tools for Playing DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Online Part 1
