AMC Entertainment , the nation’s largest theater chain, said Friday it’s awarding CEO Adam Aron and other executives “supplemental special incentive cash bonuses” to recognize the challenge they faced  steering the embattled company on a financial rollercoaster over the past pandemic year. Corporate associates and theatre management will also get special bonuses, with all payouts coming from an authorized pot of $8.3 million. Today’s SEC filing only requires the company to break out its top five executives. Aron will receive $3,75 million; chief financial officer Sean Goodman, $507,500; John McDonald, EVP US/Canada operations, $194,550; Elizabeth Frank, VP Worldwide Programming and Chief Content Officer, $180,650; and Stephen Colanero, EVP,CMO, $173,875. Apple has finalized a multi-year overall deal with Alfonso Cuarón, the Oscar-winning Roma and Gravity filmmaker. Under the pact, which has been in the works for some time, Cuarón through his production company Esperanto Filmoj will develop TV projects exclusively for Apple TV+, the tech giant’s new streaming service that is prepping for its November 1 launch. No other details have been made available, but we hear the pact spans five years and is a state-of-the-art deal. Cuarón’s TV development will be exclusive to Apple+. On some of it, he is expected to collaborate with longtime partner Anonymous Content where the filmmaker has a non-exclusive deal. He also plans to team up with other creative collaborators. Cuarón’s longtime producing partner Gabriela Rodriguez will run Esperanto Filmoj’s day-to-day operations out of its London headquarters. UPDATED with details of executive compensation plan: In an unusual move for a big public company and a bid to buck up the malingering stock, AMC’s 14 top executives including CEO Adam Aron agreed to slash their cash salary and bonuses for three years in exchange for stock that will only vest if the price doubles or triples. Their cash payouts will be shaved by 15% and other compensation will be tweaked too. Aron said during a post-earnings conference call that it’s a $1.6 million hit for him personally over three years but he’s doing it because he and other managers believe really strongly the shares are “fundamentally mispriced at current levels.” In lengthy remarks he basically declared war on AMC’s $6 stock, which has declined by over 50% in the past year, and over 80% in the past five. AMC said all senior officers have signed on to the new pay regime except ones retiring during the period.
