Actors’ Equity is warning members that New York City’s just-launched “ Open Culture ” program of outdoor performances on city streets does not meet the union’s minimum standards for wages or its Covid-19 safety protocols. “If you are approached to work on a New York City ‘Open Culture’ project, please contact your business representative immediately before accepting,” writes Equity executive director Mary McColl in a letter being sent to members today. Equity indicated that it will “continue to push New York City” to make changes to Open Culture regarding pay and safety issues. The city’s Open Culture website indicates that arts organizations eligible for inclusion in the program include theaters, music venues, comedy clubs and others. Filming or recording of the events is permitted without a film permit. Berlin: Germany Unveils Plan to Re-Open Cinemas But Uncertainty Remains
Movie theaters have been shut across the country since it went into its second lockdown in November. Late Wednesday night there was a sliver of good news for the German film industry —and for anyone trying to sell films into Germany at this week's virtual European Film Market: Germany plans to re-open cinemas. Chancellor Angela Merkel's federal government, and representatives of Germany's states, have agreed to a "five-step" program to take the country out of lockdown, including plans to re-open movie theaters, which have been shuttered since November —in the country's second coronavirus lockdown. Under the plan, Germany is set to remain under lockdown until at least March 28, but some businesses will be allowed to open and operate, under hygienic conditions, depending on the infection levels in individual cities and regions. The five steps in the plan refer to infection levels —the number of registered COVID-19 infections per 100,000 population—with restrictions easing … [Read more...] about Berlin: Germany Unveils Plan to Re-Open Cinemas But Uncertainty Remains

‘Walking Dead’ $300M Profits Trial Likely Won’t F*cking Include Frank Darabont’s Expletive-Laced Emails
A New York jury will not hear the profanity packed emails of original The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont in the trial for the $300 million profits participation battle from the Shawshank Redemption director and CAA against AMC – at least for now. “The Court is not swayed by Defendants’ argument that, absent Mr. Darabont’s emails, jurors could speculate as to why Mr. Darabont got fired and infer that AMC fired Mr. Darabont to limit his compensation,” wrote NY Supreme Court Justice Joel Cohen in an order Tuesday. “However, if Plaintiffs were to expressly put at issue AMC’s motive for terminating Mr. Darabont, for example by alleging that AMC terminated Mr. Darabont as part of a scheme to deprive him of additional compensation, then the door may be open to such evidence,” he added. “That determination will be made at trial.” Related Story 'Walking Dead' Showrunner Angela Kang Talks Lauren Cohan Return, Season 10c Debut, Teases Final Season & … [Read more...] about ‘Walking Dead’ $300M Profits Trial Likely Won’t F*cking Include Frank Darabont’s Expletive-Laced Emails
