Getty L.A. cops have a dark culture when it comes to grizzly death scenes, keeping "ghoul books" with photos of famous people who met violent deaths. As we reported, Vanessa Bryant is suing the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. among others after learning 8 deputies took personal cellphone photos of the remains of Kobe and Gianna Bryant , and then passed them around to co-workers, family, friends and even strangers. Deputy Doug Johnson testified he did not regret taking photos of the remains, claiming he was ordered to do so by a higher-up, even though that higher-up had said he gave no such order. Getty Johnson said he took 25 photos, although another officer claimed it was more like 100. The deputy admitted he took shots of Kobe's remains, although he says he didn't know at the time it was the famed basketball star. Sources connected to the production tell us everything was fine right before the "Moth Into Flame" collab was about to begin. Gaga and the band's line check, right before the performance, went off without a hitch. However, between the mic check and their act ... a wire under the stage got unplugged. We're told a stagehand did it by accident, but the damage was done -- Hetfield's mic was dead through most of the performance. They eventually fixed the unplugged wire with seconds left in the song. The man who stabbed author Salman Rushdie has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the second degree. He was arraigned last night at Chautauqua County Jail in New York. Press were barred from the hearing. The suspect, Hadi Matar , was remanded without bail. The charges could be upgraded if Rushdie’s condition deteriorates. Rushdie, age 75, was attacked as he came on stage at the Chautauqua Institution in New York. Ironically, he was allegedly to talk about the US being a “safe haven” for speech. Rushdie is on a ventilator and his agent said that he may lose an eye. He also was stabbed in the liver. The author was issued a death sentence in 1989 by Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini. That’s after Rushdie’s book, The Satanic Verses , allegedly insulted the Prophet Mohammed and The Koran.
