‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Spinoff Series ‘The Patrick Star Show’ Set At Nickelodeon

· August 10, 2020 ·

EXCLUSIVE: SpongeBob‘s partner in crime is getting his own show. I have learned that Nickelodeon is finalizing deals for The Patrick Star Show , a SpongeBob SquarePants animated spinoff centered on SpongeBob’s best friend Patrick Star, voiced by Bill Fagerbakke . I hear voiceover recordings already have started for the project, which is expected to receive a 13-episode order and comes from the creative team behind the mothership series. According to sources, The Patrick Star Show is in the vein of The Larry Sanders Show and Comedy Bang! Bang!, with Patrick (Fagerbakke) hosting his own late-night talk show. I hear the series would revolve around Patrick and his family. Fagerbakke is being joined by a largely new cast voicing new characters, with SpongeBob cast members expected to make occasional appearances, reprising their roles. A rep for Nickelodeon declined comment. ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Spinoff Series ‘The Patrick Star Show’ Set At Nickelodeon In … [Read more...] about ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Spinoff Series ‘The Patrick Star Show’ Set At Nickelodeon

‘WandaVision’ Is a Love Letter to TV — And a Reminder of How to Do It Right

· March 4, 2021 ·

This story contains full spoilers for the first season of WandaVision so far . As a comic book character, Wanda Maximoff has an origin story too convoluted to get into here. As a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she has an origin that can be boiled down to a simple idea: She is a child of television. Last week’s penultimate episode of Disney+’s WandaVision flashed back to our heroine’s younger years. While their native country of Sokovia is ravaged by war, the Maximoffs are a happy and tight-knit unit, gathering at night to watch classic American sitcoms via the DVDs that Wanda’s father Oleg sells to pay the bills. On this night, Wanda picks her favorite episode of all: “It May Look Like a Walnut” from The Dick Van Dyke Show , where Rob and Laura Petrie each have nightmares inspired by their viewing of a Twilight Zone -esque sci-fi series. Just as young Wanda beams at the image of Mary Tyler Moore tumbling on a river of walnuts into the familiar … [Read more...] about ‘WandaVision’ Is a Love Letter to TV — And a Reminder of How to Do It Right

Berlin: Germany Unveils Plan to Re-Open Cinemas But Uncertainty Remains

· March 3, 2021 ·

Movie theaters have been shut across the country since it went into its second lockdown in November. Late Wednesday night there was a sliver of good news for the German film industry —and for anyone trying to sell films into Germany at this week's virtual European Film Market: Germany plans to re-open cinemas. Sort of. Chancellor Angela Merkel's federal government, and representatives of Germany's states, have agreed to a "five-step" program to take the country out of lockdown, including plans to re-open movie theaters, which have been shuttered since November —in the country's second coronavirus lockdown. Under the plan, Germany is set to remain under lockdown until at least March 28, but some businesses will be allowed to open and operate, under hygienic conditions, depending on the infection levels in individual cities and regions. The five steps in the plan refer to infection levels —the number of registered COVID-19 infections per 100,000 population—with restrictions easing … [Read more...] about Berlin: Germany Unveils Plan to Re-Open Cinemas But Uncertainty Remains

Fox Boss Lachlan Murdoch On NFL Talks, Fox News And Life After Covid: “It’s A Good Year Not To Own Movie Studios And Theme Parks”

· March 4, 2021 ·

About two years after Fox Corp. started a new chapter as a slimmed-down, TV-centric company, CEO Lachlan Murdoch observed, “It’s a good year not to own movie studios and theme parks.” In a rare appearance at a Wall Street conference, the executive weighed in on NFL negotiations, the outlook for Fox News , ad-supported streaming and other topics. Covid-19 has also posed a number of challenges to Fox, even though it doesn’t have movie or parks assets, with advertising and sports taking a dive last spring before recovering. Talks with the NFL talks have “a ways to go,” Murdoch cautioned during an online session at Morgan Stanley’s annual Technology, Media & Telecom conference. Participants have signaled the league and its media partners could take the wraps off deal announcements as soon as next week. “The most likely scenario” would be for Fox to ditch Thursday Night Football , which it acquired in 2019 for $650 million a year in a five-year pact. That would leave the … [Read more...] about Fox Boss Lachlan Murdoch On NFL Talks, Fox News And Life After Covid: “It’s A Good Year Not To Own Movie Studios And Theme Parks”

The Gospel of Robert Finley, Dan Auerbach’s Favorite Singer

· April 7, 2018 ·

Earlier this winter, Robert Finley was backstage at Seattle’s Showbox nightclub discussing his remarkable personal history when the subject of his age came up. The soul singer said he would be turning 64 soon – on February 13th, in fact. “Robert, that’s tomorrow,” said his friend and bandleader Dan Auerbach , breaking into laughter. “With Robert,” Auerbach explained, “every day is his birthday, and is a bit of a celebration.” Finley has plenty of reasons to celebrate lately. After spending almost all of his life living in obscurity within 50 miles of the tiny town of Bernice, Louisiana, Finley has been playing sold-out rooms across the country as part of Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound Revue (That tour just wrapped last week; Finley begins a solo headlining tour May 20th in New York). Tonight in Seattle, Finley sang six songs, bringing the house down with his booming range, posessing what Auerbach calls a “deep yearning.” Related Inside Dan Auerbach's Own Rolling Thunder … [Read more...] about The Gospel of Robert Finley, Dan Auerbach’s Favorite Singer
