A new trailer for the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 will be released on Monday, but a short tease came out on Friday, and it is intense. A mixture of excitement and drama, the trailer tease shows more of star Ryan Gosling in action — and also him having a freak-out of sorts. Harrison Ford, who is returning as Rick Deckard, is also shown, but it is pretty much the same shot from the first trailer, which was released last December. The quick tease did introduce viewers to Robin Wright's unnamed character as she says, "There is an order to things. That's what we do here." There is also a shot of Gosling looking pretty beat-up. Blade Runner 2049 is due out Oct. 6. … [Read more...] about ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Trailer Tease Is Pretty Intense

My first thought, unexpectedly, upon watching the Blade Runner 2049 trailer, was wondering whether or not Replicants can have children. Beyond the eye-catching visuals on display — another reminder that, in an era of near-monochromatic blockbusters, smart use of color can make a hell of an impact on viewers — the clearest take-away from the trailer is that Ryan Gosling's character is special, in some way. Something about him marks him as particularly unique and worthy of attention, not only by the audience, but by people within the fictional future in which the movie takes place. The trailer isn't even subtle in making sure you've noticed this. A character actually says at one point, "I always told you, you're special." We get to see Gosling cry over a book with pages torn out of it, while a voiceover says, "Your story isn't over yet. There's still a page left." Gosling, it is heavily implied, isn't just important to the story of Blade Runner 2049, but to the story of Blade … [Read more...] about ‘Blade Runner 2049’: What Makes Ryan Gosling’s Character So Special?
The first full trailer for Blade Runner 2049 was released Monday, and it didn't disappoint. The anticipated trailer came during a live Facebook Q&A with the cast, which was also attended by press. Director Denis Villeneuve has said the film will be an R, like the 1982 original. It stars Ford, Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright and Ana de Armas. This new glimpse follows the first teaser for the film, which came out last December, as well as stunning footage shown at CinemaCon in March. The trailer closed out a Q&A broadcast via Facebook Live, featuring Gosling, Ford and Villeneuve. Ford spoke about the first complex scene he had with Gosling. "It was a scene about history that transpired between the last time you saw the character and how you see him now, and they reference between the two characters, and it was unexpectedly deep, emotionally deep, and really rich," said Ford. Here's the Facebook Live chat: Blade Runner 2049 is set … [Read more...] about ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Trailer: Ryan Gosling Is on Harrison Ford’s Trail
Blade Runner 2049 stars Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling on Monday discussed their trip to the future — and they topped it all off with a new trailer for the anticipated sci-fi sequel. This latest installment is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who was also a part of Monday's panel broadcast on Facebook. (Check out the panel, and the trailer, below.) For Ford, the first complex scene he had with Gosling was a surprisingly powerful moment on set. "It was a scene about history that transpired between the last time you saw the character and how you see him now, and they reference between the two characters, and it was unexpectedly deep, emotionally deep, and really rich," said Ford. Ford said the new film "acknowledges and deals with some of the ethical considerations that technology presents us with," adding, "There's no such thing as a free lunch, and we're really talking about both the benefit of technology and the social consequences of it." After revisiting Indiana Jones and … [Read more...] about ‘Blade Runner 2049’: Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling Promise “Emotionally Deep” Sequel
Two posters for Blade Runner 2049 were released on Thursday. And while they are both very slick, they just don't top the poster for the 1982 film. The new posters separately feature Harrison Ford, who is returning as Rick Deckard, and co-star Ryan Gosling. They are fairly basic, not featuring anything the December teaser didn't show. The Gosling poster is done in cool colors and shows his futuristic police cruiser. The Ford poster is done in warm colors and shows the decaying head of a massive statue, also seen in the teaser. Neither gives any movie credits or even a release date, so there is likely a third edition coming, but so far, these posters just cannot top the one for the 1982 film. That drawn poster was epic, as it was futuristic but dripping with noir. It didn't give anything away plot wise but was intriguing with the tag "Man has met his match. Now it's his problem." That poster was done by legendary artist John Alvin, … [Read more...] about ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Posters Are Sleek But Can’t Top Original
