· October 16, 2020 ·

Controversial rapper and entertainment executive Sean “ Diddy ” Combs is launching a political organization called Our Black Party . Combs said its focus is to “help advance a political agenda that addresses the needs of Black people.” Combs first announced the news on his Revolt TV network on Thursday. He also endorsed Joe Biden for president. “The NUMBER ONE priority is to get Trump out of office. HE HAS TO GO. We can’t allow this man to continue to try and DIVIDE US. The people that have the most responsibility and should be SCARED TO DEATH of this man are white people. WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF A RACE WAR,” he wrote on Twitter. “Things have got too serious. It would be irresponsible of me to have us hold our vote hostage. But it would also be irresponsible of me to let this moment go by and not make sure going forward we are doing what it takes to own our politics. We need to get Biden in and hold him accountable. Trump has taken things too far. As Black … [Read more...] about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Starts Political Party To Advance Black Agenda

Record Store Day, Vans Team Up for Dual LPs Supporting Black-Owned Record Shops

· March 1, 2021 ·

Record Store Day has teamed up with Vans to release two LPs in support of black-owned record shops. Songs for You, Vols 1 & 2 will be released this summer for Record Store Day 2021. Nineteen artists will be featured on both compilations, including Curtis Mayfield, Otis Redding, Summer Walker, Esperanza Spalding, Common, Freddie Gibbs, and more. Roberta Flack’s recent cover of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” is also included. “Black-owned record stores have historically served as places where our community has gathered to learn, listen, and celebrate,” Flack said in a statement. “They have been places of political activism, where we find our voices through the music we hear. Marvin’s song that I include in this project is sadly as relevant today as it was when it was released 50 years ago.” “Black-owned record stores have always represented something more than just a place to buy music in their communities,” added RSD co-founder Michael Kurtz. “These businesses have been … [Read more...] about Record Store Day, Vans Team Up for Dual LPs Supporting Black-Owned Record Shops

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: “Black Music Has Never Been Respected By The Grammys”

· January 26, 2020 ·

Sean “Diddy” Combs has a message for the Grammys bureaucrats: “They work for us.” Taking over the annual pre-Grammy party hosted by Clive Davis , Combs delivered a 50-minute speech that aired his grievances with the Recording Academy. His sentiments may be a prelude to other diatribes during tonight’s televised event, which are being held in the shadow of a legal battle with former CEO Deborah Dugan and the Recording Academy’s Board of Directors. Accusations of voting irregularities, sexism and cronyism have been floated in the dispute. Diddy was given an icon award at the Davis party, and spoke of his pain at past treatment by the Recording Academy. “I have to be honest. The last few days I’ve been conflicted. I’m being honored by this industry I love, this family that I love, but there’s an elephant in the room and it’s not just about the Grammys,” he said. “This is discrimination and injustice everywhere at an all-time high. But there’s something I need to say to the Grammys … [Read more...] about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: “Black Music Has Never Been Respected By The Grammys”

Tiger Woods Crash, Officials Get Warrant to Retrieve ‘Black Box’ from Wrecked SUV

· March 3, 2021 ·

Breaking News Getty Investigators in the Tiger Woods crash have obtained a search warrant to pull the "black box" from the SUV the golfer wrecked on Feb. 23 ... but it's still very unlikely he'll be charged with a crime. The L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. confirmed the warrant to USA Today -- but insisted it was a "routine part" of a typical crash investigation and does not make it any more likely officials will hit the 45-year-old with criminal charges. A car's black box usually contains information about the vehicle's speed at the time of a collision. It can also show if brakes were applied, airbags were deployed, seatbelts were worn, etc. “We’re trying to determine if a crime was committed,” Sheriff’s Deputy John Schloegl told USA Today ... "If somebody is involved in a traffic collision, we’ve got to reconstruct the traffic collision, if there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cell phone or something like that." "We determine if … [Read more...] about Tiger Woods Crash, Officials Get Warrant to Retrieve ‘Black Box’ from Wrecked SUV

Australian HFPA Member Says Organization Hadn’t Considered Lack Of Black Journalists “A Problem”

· March 3, 2021 ·

An Australian member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said on an Australian morning TV show that the organization hadn’t previously considered the absence of Black journalists “a problem” to be “focused” on. Jenny Cooney , appearing on Today Australia Monday, was asked about the HFPA ’s lack of diversity, as issue that drew anger and attention from Golden Globes presenters Sunday night. Addressing the topic, Cooney said that “the fact that there was not a Black member was not really anything we focused on because we were accepting and welcoming everybody from around the world that was based in L.A. that wrote for foreign publications, that was just our criteria.” Watch the interview above. Related Story After Those Globes, The Movies Are Ready For A Mood Swing Cooney continued, “The fact that there were no Black members we didn’t really consider a problem.
