The Covid relief package is providing a platform for a historic Senate newcomer to deliver for a long-struggling constituency: black farmers. Led by Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Senate Democrats are touting a $5 billion provision in the relief bill that will wipe out federal debts for farmers of color, and invest in reforms to help these farmers build generational wealth by keeping their family farms in the family. On a call with reporters Wednesday, Warnock celebrated the inclusion of the Emergency Relief for Farmers of Color Act in the $1.9 trillion Covid package. Warnock said Democrats were acting to “ensure equity in our recovery efforts and address longstanding injustices that have left some communities behind for far too long.” The newly elected Warnock, who is the first black senator to serve from Georgia, underscored that this federal assistance “will not only help farmers of color, but will also lift up the economies of our rural communities working to recover … [Read more...] about Covid Relief Package to Include Billions for Black Farmers

Australian HFPA Member Says Organization Hadn’t Considered Lack Of Black Journalists “A Problem”
An Australian member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said on an Australian morning TV show that the organization hadn’t previously considered the absence of Black journalists “a problem” to be “focused” on. Jenny Cooney , appearing on Today Australia Monday, was asked about the HFPA ’s lack of diversity, as issue that drew anger and attention from Golden Globes presenters Sunday night. Addressing the topic, Cooney said that “the fact that there was not a Black member was not really anything we focused on because we were accepting and welcoming everybody from around the world that was based in L.A. that wrote for foreign publications, that was just our criteria.” Watch the interview above. Zack Snyder’s Justice League Posters Assemble the Ultimate DC Superhero Team in Black & White
We have some brand new posters for Zack Snyder's Justice League , this time in black and white. HBO Max is gearing up to release the fabled Snyder Cut later this month and the marketing machine is ramping up. In this case, we have a few new looks at the team gathered together as they get ready to face down Darkseid and Steppenwolf. The posters feature Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Cyborg in various arrangements. In each case, they look very much like the heroes fans have come to expect in the DCEU . But instead of being bathed in color, the studio has opted to release this particular batch in black and white. This is, at least in part, because Zack Snyder intends to release a black and white version of the movie as well. Warner Bros. spent an extra $70 million or so to make this happen (on top of the original, massive $300 million budget). They might as well get their money's worth. EXCLUSIVE : No final decision has been made, but Deadline hears that the uncertainty of the future theatrical marketplace has Disney looking at launching a number of its upcoming tentpole family films on Disney+ instead of the theatrical release bows that were envisioned when the films were developed and green lit. At this point, the films being discussed to make that pivot are Cruella , the Craig Gillespie-directed live-action re-imaging of the animated classic that stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson; the Robert Zemeckis -directed Pinocchio that has Tom Hanks starring; and Peter Pan and Wendy , the David Lowery-directed film that has Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi set to play Tinker Bell. It isn’t clear at the moment whether the films will be offered free to Disney+ subscribers, as with the Pete Docter-directed Pixar film Soul , or for a premium charge as was done with Mulan . Still, it’s a bombshell development in the fast-changing theatrical/streaming … [Read more...] about Disney Mulling Pivot Of ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Cruella’ From Theatrical To Disney+ Premieres
Kings of Leon Will Be the First Band to Release an Album as an NFT
On Friday, Kings of Leon will release their new album, titled When You See Yourself , in the form of a non-fungible token ( NFT ) — becoming the first band to ever do so. The band is actually dropping three types of tokens as part of a series called “NFT Yourself,” people involved in the project tells Rolling Stone. One type is a special album package, while a second type offers live show perks like front-row seats for life, and a third type is just for exclusive audiovisual art. All three types of tokens offer art designed by the band’s longtime creative partner Night After Night; the smart contracts and intelligence within the tokens were developed by Yellowheart, a company that wants to use blockchain technology to bring value back to music and better direct-to-fan relationships.
