Stephen Colbert tapped Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to venture to Texas and chase down last minute interviews with Beto O’Rourke and Ted Cruz ahead of the midterm elections on The Late Show Monday. Triumph began his journey at an O’Rourke rally in Houston, where he spoke with several members of “a terrifying swarm of degenerate young leftists with one thing in common: They all share the same Netflix account.” Triumph specifically discussed some of the shadier voter suppression stories going around Texas – such as machines changing O’Rourke votes to Cruz votes – and even started handing out stickers to voters that read, “I think I just voted.” When Triumph finally got to speak with O’Rourke, he asked the candidate, “Does it concern you that half your base thinks they can vote for you through Instagram?” Laughing, O’Rourke replied, “Yeah, it’s gonna have to turn into real votes.” Triumph then headed to a Cruz rally in Harlingen, Texas, where he managed to draw laughs from a … [Read more...] about Watch Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Roast Ted Cruz on ‘Colbert’

The Senate’s Gun Control Deal Falls Short. Here’s Why Activists Are Excited About It Anyway
When a group of 20 senators announced a framework of “commonsense” gun reforms on Sunday evening, the most surprising thing about it was that it came into existence at all. A decade of demands for stricter gun laws in the wake of tragedies like those in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, have been met with shrugs from Republican lawmakers, who have always sided with the guns after massacres. But gun violence prevention advocates cautiously welcome the agreement as a sign their movement is entering a new era — one that might make these sorts of agreements less rare. “I believe this signals a political shift,” says Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, a grassroots gun violence prevention group. “I’m not arguing lawmakers are having a change of heart, if folks are doing this political expediency, that’s fine too.” A lot needs to go well in order to realize the promise of that framework. The group needs to hammer out the actual bill, a stage at which fragile … [Read more...] about The Senate’s Gun Control Deal Falls Short. Here’s Why Activists Are Excited About It Anyway
See Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Revisit Texas Senate Race on ‘Colbert’
Triumph the Insult Comic Dog , who covered the Texas senatorial race for the Late Show , visited Stephen Colbert Friday to discuss why Ted Cruz defeated Beto O’Rourke . “It’s Texas. Let’s face it, Texas is a red state,” Triumph explained. “A pile of armadillo crap could win in Texas as long as it was a Republican. And that’s exactly what happened.” The late-night host and insult comic dog also talked about O’Rourke’s impassioned concession speech where he said “fleeting profanity” – he dropped an f-bomb – on television. Triumph said of the slip-up, “Beto said a swear word on TV, can you imagine? A senatorial candidate cursing on stage like a common president.” With the state of Florida’s governor and senator seats still in flux , Colbert and Triumph ruminated on the Sunshine State. “It was a disappointing time in Florida, I have to say, they had high hopes,” Triumph admitted. “But at least they had that ballot initiative to allow ex-felons to vote. So Don Jr., you might … [Read more...] about See Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Revisit Texas Senate Race on ‘Colbert’
Despite Trump’s Wishful Thinking, Andrew Gillum Won the Florida Debate
The race to become the next governor of Florida is among the most heated contests of the upcoming midterms. It may also be the most emblematic of the national political climate in 2018. Democrat Andrew Gillum is an unabashed progressive, supporting universal healthcare, higher corporate taxes and abolishing ICE “in its current form.” Republican Ron DeSantis has built his entire campaign around his allegiance to President Trump, right down to the xenophobia. On Sunday night, they debated for the first time, and as expected, it was pretty contentious. Gillum, the current mayor of Tallahassee, and DeSantis, a former three-term congressman, sparred over everything from climate change to gun control to how the president’s rhetoric is affecting children. Trump deemed DeSantis the winner shortly after the debate concluded. Ron @RonDeSantisFL DeSantis had a great debate victory tonight against Andrew Gillum, a mayor who presides over one of the worst run, and most corrupt, cities in … [Read more...] about Despite Trump’s Wishful Thinking, Andrew Gillum Won the Florida Debate
