Remakes are almost as old as the medium of film itself, and throughout the last couple of decades there have been too many to count. But in the late 90s and early 2000s, Hollywood literally went remake crazy, and the trend has continued ever since. We're almost twenty years out, and there are already remakes being planned for 2020. But why? Thankfully, a new research study has been completed, and it reveals the biggest remake bombs of all time, offset by how much they have lost at the box office. Not just by how much they managed to aggressively squeeze out from weary ticket buyers. They also look at which remakes have been the most profitable. But that's no fun. According to this new report, the biggest remake bomb of all time is Around the World in 80 Days, which arrived back in 2004, when … [Read more...] about What Is the Biggest Remake Bomb of All-Time?

dreamworks animation Feature Top 10 Lists By Kevin Lawlor ON November 26, 2018 The Ten Best Dreamworks Animation Movies In the world of modern animated cinema, the conversation is always controlled by Disney’s Pixar Animation. Their films are continually among the top ten films of the year, either box-office or critical praise. However, moviegoers must not forget about Dreamworks Animation. They have never reached the heights of the best Pixar has to offer, but there are some wonderful films in their stable. Ever since 1998’s Antz , Dreamworks has been nipping at the heels Disney and doing a decent job. Dreamworks Animation has a silliness and subversiveness to their films that certainly differentiate them from Pixar. Sure, Dreamworks has only pulled off two Best Animated Feature Academy Awards to Disney/Pixar’s thirteen, but they are a perennial nominee. Still, Dreamworks keeps churning out fun, entertaining, films. Here are … [Read more...] about The Ten Best Dreamworks Animation Movies
It's usually a foregone conclusion that when a Hollywood blockbuster movie franchise gets to a sixth entry in the series, it probably won't be that good. It's the sequel law of diminishing returns: At the very least you can expect new thrills amid predictable formulaic beats and the comfortable familiarity that lured you out of your living room to the big screen. Most animated films based on mass-produced toys have been direct-to-video flicks, and there’s a reason for that: They have often served as video baby sitters to keep the littlest ones calm for a short time.Barbie, My Little Pony, Care Bears — some parents are far too familiar with their exploits. What changed that thinking was “The Lego Movie” in 2014, a truly exceptional piece of entertainment for young and old alike. Then came “The Lego Batman Movie” earlier this year, which I found to be hilarious, but which I’ve also come to realize may have worked better for adults than children when it comes to all those old-school bat-references.Now we have “The Lego Ninjago Movie,” which proves that not every movie franchise “universe” needs to be expanded. It’s so eager to please that it doesn’t. It’s so formulaic and predictable that there are no surprises. It’s full of jokes that, while still irreverent and … [Read more...] about Movie review: ‘The Lego Ninjago Movie’ still irreverent comedy, but it’s missing a few pieces
