Mezcal — tequila’s estranged cousin — is quickly becoming more popular than ever. The U.S. is now the number one consumer of mezcal in the world, with mezcal’s home country of Mexico as the second biggest market. Chances are you’ve heard the rumblings of mezcal’s rise, whether from a liquor connoisseur or the drinks menu at almost any bar. And, if you’re like us, you’re probably looking to understand the hype by drinking some of the best mezcals. Mezcal vs. Tequila: What’s the Difference? There’s quite a bit of well-founded confusion over what mezcal is, and how it relates to tequila. In short, tequila is actually a subcategory of mezcal, so not all mezcals are tequila, but all tequilas are mezcals. Tequila is traditionally made using Blue Weber agave, while mezcals can be made from many types of tequila. The two taste quite … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: The Best Mezcal Brands to Drink Right Now

Interview: Winona Ryder
W inona Ryder thinks reading me her diaries is a dreadful idea. I beg her in the name of science, medicine and anything else I can think of. We talk it over. And over. I tell her she would be giving a gift to the readers — something pure, unfiltered, straight from the mountain spring. She tells me that hauling out those spiral notebooks would be “the cheesiest, tackiest thing in the world.” Still, she mulls it over. For weeks, she says neither yes nor no. Instead, I get the message you occasionally get from those old Magic 8 Balls: Reply Hazy, Try Again . On New Year’s Day, Ryder calls from her place in New York, and this time the Magic 8 Ball says, incredibly, Signs Point To Yes . The 22-year-old actress lives in a gorgeous, stately apartment building in Manhattan — an ocean liner drifting through a gray and dingy neighborhood. Tonight, Ryder’s friend Kevin Haley and her boyfriend, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, are downstairs cooking dinner. The actress is in her bedroom, … [Read more...] about Interview: Winona Ryder

BACARDÍ Taps The Martinez Brothers and Major League DJz to Kick Off Governors Ball with Tropical-Tinged Pre-Show
While New York City has been the hotbed for electronic dance music, South Africa is staking its claim in the genre by ushering in a new age of African sensibilities. Courtesy of BACARDÍ, this year’s Governors Ball Music Festival pre-show featured two of the most buzzed-about DJ duos on the international club scene: disco/house mavericks the Martinez Brothers and amapiano visionaries Major League DJz. BACARDÍ is no stranger to the live music space, and the party was another event in a long series of celebrations that the brand has powered as part of its “Do What Moves You” platform. On Thursday, June 9, the showcase kicked off with a set by the Martinez Brothers. Straight from the festival grounds’ BACARDÍ Stage at Citi Field, the sibling duo returned to their hometown to coax the crowd into perpetual motion. Atop a tropical-themed stage and flanked by two bottles of BACARDÍ, brothers Steve and Chris Martinez brought in the summer vibes during a bright 75-degree evening. … [Read more...] about BACARDÍ Taps The Martinez Brothers and Major League DJz to Kick Off Governors Ball with Tropical-Tinged Pre-Show
Lil Nas X on Teasing New Music in His Vitaminwater Collab, Why He Wants ‘Bussy’ in the Dictionary, and Grupo Firme
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. Lil Nas X is our trolliest, silliest, goofiest pop star. That’s a fact. And that’s probably why he’s been enlisted by Vitaminwater to play the colorful multitudes of his identity in a new set of commercials. As part of the beverage brand’s “Nourish Every You” campaign, Rolling Stone can exclusively share one of Lil Nas X’s spots — the “feeling it” Nas — which sees the musician nearly falling for another guy, before he realizes he’s the “actually, I’m good” Nas and sips his XXX drink. “It’s gonna look like six action-packed, fun, colorful, beautiful commercials that are going to hit the market and everybody’s just gonna say ‘I need my Vitaminwater right now,’ ” Nas X tells Rolling Stone about the collab. “I just want everybody to drink some Vitaminwater with me. That’s my goal here.” The commercials offer a sneak peek to an … [Read more...] about Lil Nas X on Teasing New Music in His Vitaminwater Collab, Why He Wants ‘Bussy’ in the Dictionary, and Grupo Firme
Blue States Can’t Fix What the Supreme Court Broke
Colorado is only one of three states that allows abortion at any phase of pregnancy. It borders five states where the fate of abortion access remains uncertain, if not outright banned. In anticipation of the reversal of Roe v. Wade , the Colorado legislature enshrined the right to abortion access in its laws back in April. “State leadership matters more than ever,” Gov. Jared Polis (D) said when the Supreme Court overturned nearly 50 years of federal abortion rights with its decision in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health on Friday. “We will not retreat to an archaic era when the powerful few controlled the freedoms over our bodies.” But Colorado also prohibits using any state healthcare dollars from paying for abortions, meaning Medicaid recipients and state employees can’t use their coverage to access services. It also can’t adjust the state budget without a ballot referendum, complicating any efforts to set aside funding for the expected deluge of out-of-state abortion … [Read more...] about Blue States Can’t Fix What the Supreme Court Broke
Association Of Talent Agents Sets Date For Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Session
The Association of Talent Agents , representing more than 100 talent agencies, will hold a training session for members March 20 to review best practices for the prevention of sex harassment and discrimination. “The session will explain what constitutes unlawful sexual harassment, obligations under the law, including the California Talent Agencies Act and best practice policies,” the ATA told its members. “Our expert presenters/panelists will walk us through real-life examples and explore common mistakes. ATA’s blended training and educational session is meant to complement, not replace, your company’s policies and programs. We will explore examples of proper responses by talent agents when placed in the position of a ‘first-responder’ to clients that confide in agents.” The training session, to be held at the SAG-AFTRA Cagney Boardroom, will be chaired by ATA executive director Karen Stuart, a commissioner on the Anita Hill-led Commission on Eliminating Sexual … [Read more...] about Association Of Talent Agents Sets Date For Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Session
With Roe Falling, LGBTQ Families Fear They’ll Be the Supreme Court’s Next Target
When Obergefell v. Hodges was decided in the Supreme Court — making same-sex marriage the law of the land — Leanne Mertzman woke up to a text message from her best friend in law school: “Isn’t it cool that your daughter will never know a world where you’re not married?” It was June 2015, and Leanne’s wife, Allison, was 20 weeks pregnant with their first child. That October, Leanne cut her daughter’s umbilical cord, and two years later, she did the same for their second. At the time, many nonbirthing parents in LGBTQ couples took the step of formally adopting their children, a process called second-parent adoption that aimed to add an extra layer of legal protection against anyone who might try to challenge the legitimacy of their family. But Leanne’s name was on both girls’ birth certificates, and in 2015, with same-sex marriage settled by the Supreme Court, Leanne thought, “I feel safe.” She doesn’t feel safe anymore. Last month the Supreme Court’s draft Dobbs v. … [Read more...] about With Roe Falling, LGBTQ Families Fear They’ll Be the Supreme Court’s Next Target
It’s Quinta Brunson’s World and We’re All Just Laughing in It
Quinta Brunson — creator, executive producer, and star of the hit comedy Abbott Elementary — could moonlight as a tour guide. She meets me at the Warner Bros. Television building on a crisp day in April. The building, tucked behind bushes and an open-air set of a quaint city street, is boxy and drab, one of the least magnificent structures I see on the massive lot. And yet Brunson has a way of showing its hidden magic. Flanked by a publicist and a studio rep, we load into a golf cart, where Brunson leads me on a tour of the WB campus — it also just happens to be a tour of one of the most exciting young careers in comedy. In fact, while we chat in front of an outdoor set of a white church used in Gilmore Girls and Pretty Little Liars , an eager fan on a stretch cart packed with visitors on a guided tour loudly points her out. In 2018, she was cast as a lead in a CW series called The End of the World As We Know It after auditioning in this very building. The show never … [Read more...] about It’s Quinta Brunson’s World and We’re All Just Laughing in It
