Actor-turned-filmmaker Alex Winter ( Showbiz Kids ) has set the murder mystery The Adults , starring Evan Rachel Wood ( Westworld ), Josh Gad ( Avenue 5 ) and Anthony Carrigan ( Barry ), as his next project behind the camera, with plans to also act in the pic. The film penned by novelist Michael M.B. Galvin — who has previously adapted his own works Fat Kid Rules the World and Freak Talks About Sex for the big screen — follows siblings Megan (Wood) and Nathan (Gad), who are barely hanging on in present-day America, like all of us. EXCLUSIVE : Writer, director and producer Ariel Vromen has signed with APA for representation. Vromen most recently directed and produced the forthcoming L.A. riots drama April 29, 1992 , starring Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood and the late Ray Liotta. Deadline understands that the film, marking one of Liotta’s final projects, has recently been picked up for worldwide distribution by a major studio. No further details yet, but expect them shortly. Vromen is best known for writing, directing and producing the crime drama The Iceman , starring Michael Shannon as the contract killer Richard Kuklinski. EXCLUSIVE : Over the last year, director and VFX artist Kane Parsons has shot his YouTube following into the stratosphere with the viral success of his mysterious short, “ The Backrooms (Found Footage).” It’s the first in a series of found-footage horror videos which have thus far garnered nearly 100 million views and will now be adapted for the big screen by A24 , Atomic Monster , Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps. Parsons — who’s just 17 years old — will direct from a script by Roberto Patino ( DMZ ). He’ll just have to wait till his summer vacation. Nickelodeon’s Annual Writing and Artist Programs Announce 12 New Participants
The next generation of creative voices from underrepresented communities has been named to join Nickelodeon ’s annual Writing and Artist Programs. This year’s programs are back in person at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank for the first time since 2020. Group members will develop their skills with hands-on work as the Writing Program enters its 23rd year, with 2023 marking the 12 th year for the Artist Program.
