EXCLUSIVE : Unlike its predecessor, Dune: Part Two won’t be debuting at the Venice Film Festival , we can reveal. The sequel, one of the year’s most anticipated movies, currently has an early November global launch date so Venice is too early, we hear from sources — partly due to the VFX work still to do, partly due to the later release date. Two years ago, Dune opened to much fanfare on the Lido before playing Toronto, New York and other festivals. The Warner Bros release was staggered globally between September and late October when the film launched in the U.S. Dune: Part Two may still get a fevered festival berth, however. EXCLUSIVE: Vertigo Films is partnering with its ‘ Britannia ’ team Tom Butterworth and David Morrissey for The Dirty Squad , a new original drama series on based on the first exposé of corruption within the London Metropolitan Police. The news comes fresh after Deadline revealed that Sky had canceled epic fantasy historical drama Britannia after Season 3’s cliffhanger finale. The Dirty Squad , which is written by showrunner Butterworth ( Gangs of London ) from an idea of Morrissey’s ( The Walking Dead ), will examine corruption at the heart of the Met Police during the porn boom of the 1970s. UPDATED with Vatican statement on condition: Pope Francis will spend a few days in hospital after being diagnosed with a respiratory infection, the Vatican has said. “In recent days, Pope Francis has complained of some breathing difficulties and this afternoon he went to the Gemelli Hospital to carry out some medical checks,” the Vatican press office said in a statement. “The results highlighted a respiratory infection (excluding a Covid-19 infection) which will require a few days of appropriate hospital medical treatment,” it continued. “Pope Francis is touched by the many messages he has received.” Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Wednesday amid conflicting reports about his reason for being there. ITV Studios Buys Majority Stake In ‘Upright’ Producer Lingo Pictures In Australia
ITV Studios has acquired a majority stake in Australian producer Lingo Pictures — marking its first acquisition in the country. ITV’s production and sales arm paid an undisclosed amount for the Sydney-based company, which is best known for Upright , the Sky and Foxtel Australia drama starring Tim Minchin and House of the Dragons ‘ Milly Alcock. Deadline understands the deal value is in the eight-figure US dollars region. The deal highlights the growing value international production groups are seeing in Australia, whose favorable tax breaks system is increasingly attractive, and Australian dramas, with Paramount+’s Last King of the Cross one of the most sought-after titles available at Mipcom last month.
