This week in rock history, the Beatles hit the silver screen, Ozzy Osbourne married Sharon, Prince conquered the charts with “When Doves Cry,” and Jim Morrison and Barry White passed away. July 6, 1964: The Beatles‘ first film, A Hard Day‘s Night, premieres in LondonA Hard Day‘s Night premiered with much more fanfare than it had been shot: It screened at the London Pavilion cinema in Piccadilly Circus, with thousands of Beatles fans amassed outside (causing a giant traffic jam). But the movie had been shot cheaply and quickly; it was a blatant attempt to wring cash from Beatlemania in Europe and the United States. The black-and-white mockumentary followed John, Paul, George and Ringo through a few days on the road, with British television star Wilfrid Brambell providing constant interference as Paul’s dottering grandfather. Nonetheless, A Hard Day‘s Night did far more than stuff the band’s wallets. The Beatles’ winning rapport … [Read more...] about This Week in Rock History: Jim Morrison Dies, the Beatles Hit the Big Screen

EXCLUSIVE Celebrity gamer Sonja Reid -- aka OMGitsfirefoxx -- makes a living firing shots in virtual reality but in real life ... she's under fire for allegedly stiffing her lawyers. The law firm McPherson LLP is suing Reid claiming the former client bailed on her legal bills. She hired the firm in February of last year to get a restraining order against one or more alleged stalkers that had been sending her threatening messages. According to the law firm, it gathered tons of evidence which led to LAPD search warrants targeting Facebook, Instagram and others ... to unearth the identity of the bad guys. Things went south just a month after Reid hired the firm, because the lawyers weren't getting paid. The tab is now $41,570.54. McPherson claims Reid hired another lawyer ... and only offered to pay around 18% of the $41k bill. Ex-Hole Guitarist Claims Kurt Cobain Was Recording Solo Album
In an interview with Fuse.tv, former Hole guitarist and co-founder Eric Erlandson claimed that Kurt Cobain was working on new material around the time of his death. Comparing the solo work to the Beatles' classic White Album, Erlandson spoke about the direction of the rumored demos. "That's really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people," said Erlandson. "I got to see him play it in front of me." Erlandson also mentioned a cover among the demos, admitting, "I won't say what it is. I don't own the stuff. I just hope that one day it will be released for fans." Although rare Nirvana demos have been released before, like 2004's box set With the Lights Out, the existence of a possible Cobain solo album is unconfirmed outside Erlandson's claim. Erlandson recently released the book Letters to Kurt, and he reunited with the original Hole lineup for a reunion show last week. … [Read more...] about Ex-Hole Guitarist Claims Kurt Cobain Was Recording Solo Album
When Jimmy Page Debuted With the Yardbirds and Steely Dan Broke Up
This week in rock history, Jimmy Page hit the stage with the Yardbirds, the Beatles told the world that “All You Need is Love,” Steely Dan broke up, John Lennon’s murderer pleaded guilty, and the Ronettes took Phil Spector to court. June 21, 1966: Jimmy Page makes his live debut with the Yardbirds Before Jimmy Page became the quintessential guitar player with mystique, he was a bass player with ambition. In 1966, Page joined one of the most influential and up-and-coming British bands of his era, the Yardbirds. At only 22 years old, he was already a respected session musician in London – in fact, the blues-leaning rock band had approached him two years earlier to replace then-guitarist Eric Clapton, but Page declined in loyalty to his pal. A year later, when Clapton quit, the group solicited Page again, who in turn recommended another friend, Jeff Beck (because Page was raking in the cash sitting in with Decca Records artists, including the Rolling … [Read more...] about When Jimmy Page Debuted With the Yardbirds and Steely Dan Broke Up
Can Annabelle Scare Toy Story 4 Away from the Top of the Box Office?
Last weekend gave the summer box office a much-needed jolt, as Toy Story 4 brought in a huge $120.9 million during its opening frame. With a number like that, even with a steep drop, it's going to be tough for other titles to compete, but don't blame anyone for trying. Warner Bros. and New Line are set to unleash the latest chapter of The Conjuring universe, Annabelle Comes Home and Universal will be releasing Yesterday, which is driven by the music of The Beatles. Disney and Marvel are also re-releasing Avengers: Endgame with some bonus content in an attempt to get a little closer to Avatar's record. Toy Story 4 will keep its box office crown in its second weekend, and easily we might add. Pixar and Disney have scored another hit. Director Josh Cooley has managed to exceed expectations with both critics and moviegoers. That has led to great word of mouth and will translate to an excellent second weekend take for the animated sequel. Expect to see a drop off of less than 50 percent, … [Read more...] about Can Annabelle Scare Toy Story 4 Away from the Top of the Box Office?
