The Second City , the famed Chicago improv comedy outfit, has been acquired by private equity firm ZMC , whose founder and managing partner is longtime media figure Strauss Zelnick . Financial terms for the deal were not disclosed. Houlihan-Lokey served as a financial advisor to Second City on the transaction. The M&A firm generally specializes in middle-market deals such as the sale of the XFL or Univision’s acquisition of Spanish-language streaming service Vix. Second City, founded in 1959, gained fame from its theaters in Chicago, Toronto and Hollywood. EXCLUSIVE : Fledgling LA-based production outfit Fandomodo Films has hired Aishah Roberts as the company’s Director of Film Development, Europe & UK. Roberts, who starts this week and is based in Europe, will be responsible for development of Europe and UK-based film projects. The former actress set up film and TV production company Pyramid Four last year. Fandomodo’s slate includes the Untitled Brig Owens Story , a feature that will recount the story of NFL players Brig Owens and Jerry Smith during the Civil Rights era. Written by Tommy Oliver ( The Perfect Guy ), th e film will feature Joel Kinn a man ( Hanna ) as Smith, and is being produced by Anthony Kaan and Tommy Oliver . Muvi Cinemas , the first locally owned and operated cinema brand in Saudi Arabia, and Riyadh-based producer and financier Telfaz11 have inked a deal that will see the two companies team to grow filmmaking in the region. Under the terms of the deal, Muvi is taking an undisclosed stake in Telfaz11. A new film fund will also be created to finance Telfaz11-produced feature films for release in theaters across Saudi. The companies say they will also collaborate on each other’s social-media and digital platforms in a marketing alliance as they look to expand their brands. Back in November, Netflix struck a deal with Telfaz11 for the latter to produce a slate of eight films for the global streamer.
