FIONA Bruce is one of the TV's most recognisable stars – thanks to her work on the BBC's Six O'Clock News and Antiques Roadshow. Here's the lowdown on one of the BBC's flagship broadcasters... Who is Fiona Bruce? Fiona was born in Singapore in 1964 to an English mother and a Scottish father and has two older brothers. She went to school in both the UK and in Italy before studying French and Italian at Oxford, where she briefly became a punk. After graduating, she worked at a management consulting firm before landing a researchers job on the BBC current affairs programme Panorama. The 53-year-old later worked as a producer and reporter on both BBC Breakfast and Newsnight and in 1999 she became the secondary presenter of the BBC Six O'Clock News. Picture: CONTRIBUTED Archant A farmers’ market stall holder who regularly trades at an event near Bury St Edmunds has appeared on a television food series where products are sampled. Ruth Capocci, whose products are sold under the name Blackbird Cottage, featured on BBC Two programme Top of the Shop with Tom Kerridge. Ruth showcased her black magic chicken liver parfait with Italian black truffles in a battle with three other producers to win over local customers in Yorkshire. Ruth, from Norfolk, regularly trades at the Wyken Vineyard Farmers’ Market, near Walsham-le-Willows, and attends every second Saturday of the month. She will be trading again on Saturday, May 12, and organisers are inviting people to go along to sample some all-meat terrines, pâtés and parfaits. Picture: Nick Butcher Archant © 2018 Two landscapers from a company on the Norfolk/Suffolk border will be showing off their green fingers in an inaugural competition hosted by the BBC. Jacob Botting and Harvey Miller, from Bespoke Outdoor Spaces in Wortwell near Harleston, have made it to the final stages of the BBC Gardeners’ World Live Young Landscapers Award. The duo are going forward in the competition to build a challenging show garden by Diarmuid Gavin, Irish garden designer and TV personality. They will be up against two landscapers from a company in the north east of England. Both teams’ gardens will be assessed on Wednesday June 13 at the NEC in Birmingham, when one pair will be crowned BBC Gardeners’ World Live young landscapers of 2018.
