Field of Dreams has struck out at Peacock . The NBCUniversal streamer has abruptly dropped its series reboot of the classic Kevin Costner baseball movie, Deadline has confirmed. The project, which comes from The Good Place creator Michael Schur, the film’s producer Lawrence Gordon and Universal TV, had been handed a straight-to-series order in August 2021. Universal TV is now shopping the series to other broadcasters and platforms. It’s believed that the show has been casting and is a month out from production with seven hour-long scripts ready to go. Written by Schur, the series was set to reimagine the mixture of family, baseball, Iowa and magic that made the movie so enduring and beloved. TelevisaUnivision said its Vix + streaming service will launch July 21, at a monthly price of $6.99 in the U.S. and MX$119 in Mexico. The premium tier is joining the free, ad-supported Vix, which went live in March. The streaming moves followed the formation of TelevisaUnivision as a company earlier this year after the close of the $4.8 billion merger of Univision and the media holdings of Mexico’s Grupo Televisa. Along with the U.S. and Mexico, Vix and Vix+ are rolling out across most of Spanish-speaking Latin America. TelevisaUnivision has said it believes Spanish-speaking streaming audiences are underserved. Vix+ will release more than 70 original series and movies in its first year. NBCUniversal has exceeded last year’s record-setting upfront ad revenue haul north of $7 billion, company insiders said in confirming the finalizing of upfront dealmaking. Rates increased by high-single-digits, fueled by strong growth in categories like retail, quick-serve restaurants, consumer packaged goods, technology and streaming. Pharmaceuticals led all categories with nearly 40% growth over last year, followed by travel, which climbed 30%. Commitments to Peacock , NBCU’s two-year-old streaming service, doubled from last year to reach $1 billion. The platform got off to a sluggish start in 2020 amid the worst of Covid before gaining traction with originals like Bel-Air and the addition of the WWE Network. Animated family comedy Duncanville is coming to an end. Fox has canceled the series, which comes from Amy Poehler, The Simpsons veteran Mike Scully and former Simpsons writer-producer Julie Scully, after three seasons. The series is averaging a 0.2 in live+7 numbers with 641,000 viewers and around 1.1M multiplatform viewers per episode. The third season, which premiered in May, recently wrapped up on Fox. However, there are six final episodes that the broadcast network does not plan to air that will exclusively stream on Hulu later this year. USC and UCLA are exploring a move from the Pac-12 Conference to the Big Ten Conference as early as 2024, according to multiple media reports. The jump would be the latest major disruption of the college sports landscape, which has been altered by players gaining rights to name, image and likeness (NIL) revenue and the rise of the five conferences in the top tier of the ultra-lucrative sport of football. While the realignment would apply to all sports, football controls the vast majority of the dollars flowing to schools from media rights. Both USC and UCLA have kept mum about their plans, but the move has been reported by numerous outlets as effectively a done deal.
