When the documentary Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) sold for a record $12 million+ out of Sundance, it was just the latest piece of good news in a breakthrough year for production house Concordia Studio . The company, founded in 2017 by Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim and Laurene Powell Jobs of Emerson Collective, launched two other docs at Sundance 2021: Peter Nicks’ Homeroom and At the Ready , directed by Maisie Crow. But it’s Concordia Studio films that premiered at last year’s Sundance that have lifted the firm to greater prominence. Time , directed by Garrett Bradley, and Boys State , from directors Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine, are in the thick of contention as Oscar nomination voting proceeds. Summer Concert Boom Marks Industry Turnaround
With the Rolling Stones , U2 , Taylor Swift and One Direction on the road during an economic recovery, it’s hard to imagine the concert business having anything other than a blockbuster summer. First-half North American ticket sales were up 5.8 percent compared to 2014, according to Pollstar; top promoter Live Nation’s sales, through July, increased 7 percent; and AEG Live, the second-biggest promoter, posted box-office gains of 26 percent. Plus, Lollapalooza drew 300,000 fans, the Stones grossed $80 million from just 10 shows, Swift has sold 2 million tickets so far, the Grateful Dead set an attendance record by drawing more than 70,000 fans to Chicago’s Soldier Field and even Ed Sheeran is selling out stadiums internationally. “I can’t think of a time in recent history that business has been any better,” says Jay Marciano, AEG Live’s chairman. International Women's Day is celebrated today (March 8). It is dedicated honoring the achievements of women, all across the world. While talking to TOI, Sidharth Shukla revealed that it's his mother who has had a major impact on his life. Apart from her, he said that his sisters has had an influence on his life and called them his heroes. Sidharth said that his sisters have a huge role to play in the way he think and made him realise the importance of women. He added, "I have two elder sisters, and they were my heroes while I was growing up. Their definition of an ideal man is how I always wanted to be. I thought their version of an ideal man was the perfect man and I wanted to be like that. However far I may be from that today, I think I am still a better man because of chasing their ideals. ‘Women Of the Year’ Scripted Anthology Series From Alma Har’el Based On Time’s Project In Works At Amazon
EXCLUSIVE : The Time 100 Women of the Year initiative is getting a scripted anthology series treatment. Amazon Studios is developing Women Of the Year, a TV adaptation of the Time 100 Women of the Yea r project and special issue, conceived by filmmaker Alma Har’el, which launched for International Women’s Day 2020 to recognize the contributions of female leaders, innovators, activists, entertainers, athletes and artists who defined the century from 1920 through 2019. A year later, on International Women’s Day 2021, the partners behind Time 100 Women of the Year, Har’el and her company Jellywolf, Time Studios and consumer goods giant P&G, have re-teamed for the Women Of the Year TV series. Billy Bush Out At ‘Today’ In Wake Of Lewd Conversation With Donald Trump Caught On Tape
“ Billy Bush will be leaving the Today Show’s 9 AM hour, effective today,” NBC News SVP Noah Oppenheim said this evening in a note to staff. In the carefully worded statement, Oppenheim called Bush “a valued colleague and longtime member of the broader NBC family” adding that they wish him success as he goes forward. In a separate statement, Bush said he was “deeply grateful for the conversations I’ve had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends and colleagues” adding that he is looking “forward to what lies ahead.” With the announcement, NBC News has said so long to Bush, ridding itself of the Today show anchor heard round the TV news landscape giggling his way through a lewd conversation with Donald Trump about women, including Bush’s then- Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O’Dell.
