The Cannes Film Festival 2022 also known as Festival International du Cannes is all set to take place this week beginning on May 17, 2022. Set to take place in the city of Cannes on the French Riveiera, the film festival will be attended by many celebrities across the world including Bollywood actors like Deepika Padukone, Pooja Hedge, Hina Khan, and others. Hosted at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, the film festival will give a glimpse at some of the biggest upcoming releases in 2023. Along with the Grand Prix, Prix du Jury etc., at the end of the week, the jury will also honour a new release with the Palme d'Or. ‘The Tiger’: Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi To Direct Alexander Skarsgard & Dane DeHaan In Feature Take Of John Vaillant Book – Cannes
Ukrainian filmmaker Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi wrote and will direct the feature adaptation of John Valliant’s book The Tiger , in which Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award-winner Alexander Skarsgard will star alongside Oppenheimer actor Dane DeHaan . Set in snowy far east Russia in the late 90s, the feature follows a group of men — referred to as the Tiger Team — who work to protect endangered tigers from poachers and logging operations. The story follows Vanzin (Skarsgard), the Team’s leader whose sense of duty is tested when he’s charged with hunting down and exterminating a tiger that killed a poacher in self-defense. DeHaan would portray Kanchuga, a young environmental scientist and newest member of the Team. Darren Aronofsky and Protozoa are producing, along with Plan B and Wild Bunch International. Palme d’Or winning actress Léa Seydoux will star in Happening filmmaker Audrey Diwan ’s English-language directorial debut, Emmanuelle , inspired by Emmanuelle Arsan’s novel and based on a script co-developed by Diwan and Rebecca Zlotowski. The Arsan book follows a young woman’s sexual journey from the arms of her husband to intimate encounters with the wives of his business associates, to further explorations wherein the philosophical and aesthetic facets of eroticism are expounded—and enacted—to the fullest degree. Diwan’s second feature, Happening, adapted from Annie Ernaux’s book recounting her illegal abortion in the 1960s, received the Golden Lion at the 2021 Venice Film Festival; four César Award nominations, including a win for Most Promising Newcomer for Anamaria Vartolomei; and a BAFTA Award nomination; among other honors. Cannes Competition Title ‘Close’ Sells To Italy & Spain On Eve Of Festival
EXCLUSIVE : On the eve of the Cannes Film Festival, Competition title Close has sold to Lucky Red for Italy, Vertigo Films for Spain and Lev Cinemas for Israel. The Match Factory is handling sales on Lukas Dhont’s second feature, about how an intense friendship between two thirteen-year old boys is unexpectedly disrupted. Pic is produced by Dirk Impens and Michiel Dhont for Menuet (BE) and co-produced by Diaphana (FR), Topkapi Films (NL) and Versus Productions (BE). Diaphana will release in France. Cast includes newcomers Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele as well as established European actors Lea Drucker, Emilie Duquenne and Kevin Janssens. Dhont’s debut Girl , the transgender dancer drama, won the Camera d’Or at Cannes in 2018.
