EXCLUSIVE : Canadian producer Antica Productions has partnered with media organization Postmedia Network to create podcasts and TV shows from journalism, setting debut project True Crime Byline. Postmedia’s aim is to turn its journalism into factual podcasts as well as looking at scripted and non-scripted TV and film further down the line. Kathleen Goldhar will oversee the partnership on behalf of Antica with Chris Gallipeau, Director of Audio and Video, and Andrea Hill, Director of Verticals, at Postmedia. Debut project True Crime Byline will be hosted and exec produced by Goldhar, who will invite journalists on to the show to speak about cases that have impacted the way they see the world. Festival In Focus: Karlovy Vary’s Industry Strand Eastern Promises Set To Up Its Game For The 56th Edition
Eastern Promises , the popular industry strand of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival , has spent the last two years relegated to an online only event due to Covid-19, but the upcoming seventh edition of the event is now gearing up for what it hopes to be a vintage year as it returns in a physical capacity on Sunday, June 3. The three-day event, which looks to promote regional and international filmmakers with distributors, sales agents, producers and festival programmers, will unveil 35 selected film projects – all at various stages — through its Works in Progress, Works in Development – Feature Launch, First Cut+ Works in Progress and Odesa International Film Festival Works in Progress presentations. Rian Johnson’s ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ To World Premiere At Toronto Film Festival
The Toronto Film Festival said Wednesday that Netflix ’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery , Rian Johnson ’s follow-up to his hit 2019 murder mystery pic, will world premiere at this year’s edition of the festival, which runs September 8-18. No firm date has been set for the premiere. Knives Out , which grossed $311.6 million worldwide when it bowed in November 2019, also had its world premiere that year at TIFF. Daniel Craig returns to the film franchise as gentleman detective Benoit Blanc, who this time travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects. Fans of Mare of Easttown may not have to wait too much longer for another HBO limited series starring Kate Winslet : The two-time Emmy winner is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Hernan Diaz’s 2022 novel Trust . HBO acquired the recent bestseller from Riverhead Books in a competitive situation. The book is about a wealthy financier who is dissatisfied by a novel based on his life and his wife’s portrayal, so he asks a secretary to ghostwrite his memoir and set the record straight. The secretary, however, grows uncomfortably aware that he is rewriting history—and his wife’s place in it. Told in four different voices and genres, Trust is a narrative puzzle that subverts the notion of truth and who gets to define it. Diaz will also executive produce the project. Margaret Keane Dies: Kitschy ‘Big Eyes’ Artist, Subject Of Tim Burton Biopic Was 94
Margaret Keane , whose wildly popular paintings of big-eyed, melancholy children (and later celebrities with deep pockets) became one of the most widely recognized signature artistic styles of the late 20th Century – and whose long battle with her husband over his fraudulent and lucrative claims of authorship inspired the 2014 Tim Burton film Big Eyes starring Amy Adams – died Sunday at home in Napa, California. She was 94. Her death was reported on her official Facebook page today: “We’re sad to announce that Margaret Keane, ‘The Mother of Big Eyes, our Queen, a Modern Master and Legend’ peacefully passed away Sunday morning at her home in Napa, CA, she was 94.” Her daughter Jane Swigert told The New York Times that the cause of death was heart failure. Broadway Cast Announced For Tom Stoppard’s ‘Leopoldstadt’
Most of the 38-member cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Tom Stoppard ’s Olivier Award-winning Leopoldstadt was announced today, with four members of the original West End company making the move and newcomers to the show set to include Caissie Levy, Brandon Uranowitz, Seth Numrich and David Krumholtz. Twenty-three of the cast members announced today will be making their Broadway debuts with Leopoldstadt, according to producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Roy Furman, and Lorne Michaels. Patrick Marber, who directed the West End staging, will direct for Broadway as well. Leopoldstadt ’s limited Broadway engagement will begin previews Wednesday, September 14, with an official opening on Sunday, October 2, at the Longacre Theatre. Set in Vienna, Leopoldstadt begins in the last days of 1899 and follows one extended family well into the 20th Century. Aaron Sorkin ‘Camelot’ Postpones Broadway Opening Until Spring 2023
The Lincoln Center Theater production of Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot with a new book by Aaron Sorkin will arrive on Broadway next spring rather than this fall, producers announced today. Camelot , which will reteam Sorkin (who is writing the book based on the original Alan Jay Lerner book) with his T o Kill A Mockingbird director Bartlett Sher, will now begin previews at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater on Thursday, March 9, 2023, with an official opening on Thursday, April 13, 2023. The production previously had been set to begin performances this November. No reason was given for the rescheduling. Based on The Once and Future King by T.H.
