Roku Acquires Nielsen’s Advanced Video Ad Unit, Companies Form Alliance To Boost Streaming Targeting

· March 1, 2021 ·

In a move that will bolster Roku ’s advertising capabilities, the streaming company has acquired Nielsen ’s Advanced Video Advertising unit. Terms for the deal were not disclosed. A person familiar with the transaction described it as “not material” to the overall business of Roku, whose market value is $53 billion. Nevertheless, the acquisition is a meaningful step forward for the streaming potentate. The company will now be able to serve viewers “dynamically inserted” ads on live, linear programming, opening up new horizons for its burgeoning ad business. Nielsen’s automatic content recognition tools for video will also come under the Roku roof, giving the company another important tool to offer marketers. Disney CEO Bob Chapek Hints At Shorter Theatrical Windows: For “Impatient” Customers, “I’m Not Sure There’s Going Back”

· March 1, 2021 ·

Disney CEO Bob Chapek suggested that the company will likely shrink the exclusive period when its films play only in theaters, though he didn’t offer any specifics. “The consumer is probably more impatient than they’ve ever been before,” he said of the market shifts during Covid-19, “particularly since now they’ve had the luxury of an entire year of getting titles at home pretty much when they want them. So, I’m not sure there’s going back. But we certainly don’t want to do anything like cut the legs off a theatrical exhibition run.” Moviegoers, he added, won’t “have much of a tolerance for a title, say, being out of theatrical for months” and “just sort of sitting there, gathering dust” before migrating to streaming or other windows. Tom Holland Shares the Brutal Cherry Training Regime That Resulted in Huge Weight Loss

· March 1, 2021 ·

Tom Holland is no stranger to hard physical training, which he did plenty of in order to portray the Marvel superhero Spider-Man. But when it came to preparing to play the lead role in the actor's upcoming feature Cherry , Holland realized he would have to undergo a different, much more difficult form of training to lose close to 30 pounds in weight. In an interview with GQ, Holland admitted he would have a hard time making a similarly intense sacrifice for a future role. "I had to lose a lot of weight for Cherry. And I don't think I would ever do that again. I lost around 27lbs by running in a bin bag every day... It was awful. Truly. It was only about ten weeks out of shooting that I realized what I was getting into and what I need to do to transform into the role. So I sat down with my trainer, George Ashwell, and he told me, 'Right, you need to eat only 500 calories a day and run ten miles. Go.' Great. It was brutal. And then bulking up, going from a drug addict to … [Read more...] about Tom Holland Shares the Brutal Cherry Training Regime That Resulted in Huge Weight Loss
