Recently, I had a chat with Andy Serkis about his upcoming film MOWGLI (more on that later) and had the chance to ask a few questions that were burning in the minds of his fans (myself included) and he gave some exciting and mysterious answers. I was curious to know how he felt about so many of his signature characters being killed off in the last year and raised an eyebrow at his sneaky answer to Snoke, which could mean anything, but certainly hints that we may not have seen the last of him. Serkis also responds to the new Amazon version of Lord of the Rings and whether or not he'd be interested in being a part of either Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN or any DC property. Check out the responses below. We've seen three of your signature characters, Caesar, Ulysses Klaue and Snoke, get killed onscreen over the course of the last year. What's it like for you to say goodbye to these characters that you've inhabited multiple times? "I mean, look, Caesar really was like ripping my heart out when … [Read more...] about Ex. Andy Serkis Doesn’t Think He’ll Be In The Lord Of The Rings TV Show
x Roughly a month ago, it was revealed that Amazon Studios acquired the television rights to J.R.R Tolkien’s best-selling series, The Lord of the Rings, for $250 million. It was also specified that Peter Jackson, who won Best Director at the 76th Academy Awards for The Return of the King, has the option to board the series as an executive producer. Jackson has yet to either confirm or deny his involvement in the project, but another significant player from Middle-Earth has been reached for comment regarding whether or not he’ll be returning for Amazon’s small screen adaptation, Andy Serkis. The actor, who portrayed Gollum/Smeagol in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy, divulged to Cinema Blend recently that he doesn’t think he’ll be reprising his role, unfortunately. When asked if he would return to play Gollum, Serkis made it clear that it’s not something he’d be interested in doing, saying. “Oh boy, … [Read more...] about Andy Serkis Doesn’t Think He’ll Be In The Lord Of The Rings TV Show
What Andy Serkis Thinks About Returning For The Lord Of The Rings Show
2 minutes ago Amazon is looking to drop a lot of money on its upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel series, so it wouldn't be surprising for the company to seek out some of the films' stars to reprise their roles to ensure audiences get hype. While some former franchise cast members would seemingly be game to appear, Andy Serkis seems to be a hard no for returning as Gollum. The actor and filmmaker expressed as much while talking to CinemaBlend's Sean O'Connell about his upcoming film Mowgli, and shared his thoughts on a potential return for Amazon's gargantuan project: In Andy Serkis' mind, the key to Amazon's Lord of the Rings series seems to be creating something fresh. Much like his upcoming film Mowgli, which is described as a darker adaptation of The Jungle Book, Serkis' seems to believe that while certain elements of J.R.R. Tolkien's universe are worth returning to for this new series, other elements should either be left alone or transformed in refreshing ways. Apparently, … [Read more...] about What Andy Serkis Thinks About Returning For The Lord Of The Rings Show

Andy Serkis Unveils First Look at Darker ‘Mowgli’
Tuesday at CinemaCon, Andy Serkis introduced a first look at Warner Bros.' Mowgli with two-and-a-half minutes of material that revealed a dark, gritty live action/CG retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book — and a distinctly different look and feel compared with Disney's 2016 The Jungle Book. "People are so used to the 1968 [Disney animated version]," said Serkis, who directed the film and also plays Baloo. "This is trying to delve into Kipling's book and the journey for Mowgli as a outsider, as an other, trying to find his identity." Part of that, he said, comes from the mentorship of the character around him as he goes from an orphaned child to a leader in the jungle. The preview aappeared to be well received by the CinemaCon crowd. Serkis was joined on stage by cast members Benedict Cumberbatch (Shere Kan), Cate Blanchett (Kaa), Matthew Rhys (John Lockwood) and Rohan Chand (Mowgli).
