A Democratic U.S. Navy veteran has filed a class-action lawsuit against Facebook, Cambridge Analytica and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon over the millions of Facebook accounts secretly scraped for data before the 2016 election. The vet, Jordan O'Hara, believes his personal data was part of the massive breach because his social media feeds oddly became clogged with right-wing propaganda and memes mocking Hillary Clinton during her presidential campaign. "His sense at the time was that he was in some way being targeted to receive this propaganda because there was an assumption that he was active in the military and thus a Republican," the lawsuit filed this week in federal court in Los Angeles states. O'Hara now believes his data was secretly "mined" by Cambridge Analytica "for the purpose of improper campaigning." A Facebook spokesperson declined to comment on the merits of the lawsuit Friday, but company founder Mark Zuckerberg continued his campaign to convince users their data … [Read more...] about Navy veteran sues Facebook, Cambridge Analytica and Steve Bannon over data breach scandal

But the buried lede was found near the very bottom of the announcement, where Facebook wrote, “In total, we believe the Facebook information of up to 87 million people — mostly in the US — may have been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica.” Cambridge Analytica’s actions in the 2016 election came to light in recent weeks after data scientist and whistleblower Christopher Wylie exposed information about the firm’s internal … [Read more...] about Facebook: Cambridge Analytica Got Data from ‘Up to 87 Million People –– Mostly in the US’
