‘Luce’ Filmmaker Julius Onah Signs With WME
EXCLUSIVE : WME has signed Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah ( Luce ) for representation. Onah is best known for his 2019 Neon drama Luce , based on J.C. Lee’s play of the same name, in which parents Amy (Naomi Watts) and Peter (Tim Roth) are forced to reckon with their idealized image of their son (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), adopted from war-torn Eritrea, after an alarming discovery by a devoted high school teacher (Octavia Spencer) threatens his status as an all-star student. Luce made its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Director. ‘True Detective’: Kali Reis Joins Jodie Foster In Season 4 As It Gets HBO Greenlight
Actor, professional boxer and Indigenous rights advocate Kali Reis is set to star opposite Jodie Foster in True Detective : Night Country. With both leads in place, Season 4 of the crime thriller anthology series has received a formal greenlight by HBO . Reis recently burst into the Hollywood scene with her acting debut in the indie film Catch the Fair One, on which she also helped develop the story with director Josef Kubota Wladyka. Her performance earned her a special Jury Mention for Best Actress at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, where the film won the Audience Award, as well as a 2022 Indie Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead. It also got the attention of True Detective producers. Reis was identified as the choice for the co-lead opposite Foster weeks ago. NATPE Moving Flagship Event From Miami To The Bahamas From 2023
The National Association of Television Program Executives ( NATPE ) is moving its flagship January event from its long-time home in Miami 180 miles across the water to a new base in Nassau in the Bahamas . The plan, which many international execs have been aware of for several months, takes NATPE to the Bahamas Mar Resort and Conference Center from next year’s event, which takes place on January 17-19. This marks the first time NATPE will not take place on American soil. The Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami has been NATPE’s home since 2011, though the previous two editions have been held online due to the Covid pandemic. Prior to that it was held in Las Vegas and further back in cities such as New Orleans, LA, New York, Houston and San Francisco. The Supreme Court has been under the lens in a major way after its landmark ruling to reverse Roe v. Wade last week. Dawn Porter , director of documentaries including The Way I See It and John Lewis: Good Trouble , will now explore the history of the court, the justices, decisions and confirmation battles that have shaped the United States, in four-part docuseries Confirmed for Showtime . The series is produced by Porter’s Trilogy Films and Sony Pictures Television and will air in 2023.
