We Are Waiting on Zuck
If you happen to be wondering why it is that some of your favourite small and medium publishers are silent today, it’s because they are all #WaitingOnZuck. Kicking off today, the #WaitingOnZuck campaign is spearheaded by Decade of Action and is in direct response to last year’s News Media Bargaining Code, which was signed into law in February of 2021. The News Media Bargaining Code resulted in Facebook blocking news from local publishers as they continued to oppose the law, which would require designated tech platforms to strike commercial deals with Australian publishers that recognised the value of the content those publishers provided the platforms. Though Facebook ( Meta ) has indeed agreed to some commercial deals, they have refused to negotiate with most of Australia’s independent and small publishers. As the #WaitingOnZuck campaign explains, “this risks the slow demise of meaningful independent media in Australia which gives our industry its diversity.” Now, … [Read more...] about We Are Waiting on Zuck
Kevin Spacey’s ‘Sanitised’ Version of 1986 Sex Abuse Can’t End Lawsuit, Accuser Says
Anthony Rapp is pushing back against Kevin Spacey ’s recent demand that Rapp’s sex abuse lawsuit be terminated on the grounds that his alleged 1986 assault wasn’t serious enough to qualify for revival under the Child Victim’s Act. In a new court filing obtained by Rolling Stone , Rapp rejects Spacey’s March 4 assertion that the law “requires” a plaintiff to allege “squeezing, grabbing or pinching of a sexual or other intimate part” for sexual gratification or abuse in order to invoke the CVA and overcome an otherwise expired statute of limitations. Rapp and his lawyers argue in the new filing that Rapp’s “extensive testimony” claiming Spacey “grazed” and touched his buttocks while picking him up and putting him on a bed while he was a “14-year-old child” and the American Beauty actor was a 26-year-old “grown man” is enough to send the case to trial. As precedent, they cite two New York state cases where men were convicted of third-degree sex abuse for walking up to women … [Read more...] about Kevin Spacey’s ‘Sanitised’ Version of 1986 Sex Abuse Can’t End Lawsuit, Accuser Says

Amanda Bynes’ 9-Year Conservatorship Ends: ‘She’s Done Everything the Court Has Asked’
UPDATE (22/3/2022): Amanda Bynes is a free woman. Nearly nine years after the Easy A actor was placed in a court-ordered conservatorship that gave her mother decision-making power over her healthcare and security, a judge terminated the guardianship arrangement Tuesday. “The court finds that petitioner has provided facts that the conservatorship is no longer needed or required, therefore the petition for termination is granted,” Ventura County Judge Roger Lund said at the morning hearing that Bynes did not attend. “She’s done everything the court has asked over a long period of time,” the judge said. “She’s excited. She was looking forward to a favorable result, and she got it,” Bynes lawyer, David Esquibias, told Rolling Stone immediately after the hearing. He later released a statement from his client. “Words can’t even describe how I feel. Wonderful news. Following today’s decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for … [Read more...] about Amanda Bynes’ 9-Year Conservatorship Ends: ‘She’s Done Everything the Court Has Asked’
