CL, one of the most successful K-pop crossover artists in the history of the genre, has returned with “DONE161201,” her first solo project in three years. Paired with the single “REWIND170205,” the tracks will appear on her upcoming LP In the Name of Love. The video for “DONE161201” features cameos from Grimes, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, Sohee of Wonder Girls and CL’s former bandmates from 2NE1, singing along in what appears to be a homemade film released this month. The laid-back breakup jam brings back the singer-songwriter side of the rapper against a soulful, familiar melody. “Oh-eh-oh-eh-oh/I’m done with you,” she chants between candidly written Korean verses. Her smug attitude is so memorable that it’s reminiscent of her earliest work — they were written years before release, via the dates in the titles. Toward the end, she breaks down a classic bar that hits like a punch in the gut — “Matter … [Read more...] about Song You Need to Know: CL, ‘DONE161201’

James Franco Accuser Sarah Tither-Kaplan Wants Apology, ‘I Still Have Love for Him’
EXCLUSIVE One of James Franco's accusers is willing to forgive him if he publicly owns up to the sexual misconduct she says she experienced on a movie set. Sarah Tither-Kaplan tells TMZ, "I don't hate James. I still have love for him." She's reacting to Franco's Critics' Choice Awards victory Thursday night ... a ceremony he skipped because, as we first reported ... he's despondent over multiple allegations against him. Sarah says she doesn't begrudge Franco's success, and, in fact, says she would've been shocked if he didn't win -- but adds he still needs to accept responsibility and apologize. In fact, she believes he'll be totally forgiven if he does. Hey James Franco, nice #timesup pin at the #GoldenGlobes , remember a few weeks ago when you told me the full nudity you had me do in two of your movies for $100/day wasn't exploitative because I signed a contract to do it? Times up on that! @sarahtk You'll recall, she accused Franco of exploiting her for nude scenes in a … [Read more...] about James Franco Accuser Sarah Tither-Kaplan Wants Apology, ‘I Still Have Love for Him’
Need a Rock Hit? Cover an Oldie
The most unexpected hit of the year, hands down, is Weezer‘s cover of Toto’s “Africa.” It’s the tweet-turned-song heard ’round the country, setting a weekly record for spins as a Number One hit at Alternative radio and reaching Number 54 on the Hot 100. Though it seems like a jokey fluke, covers like this one are an increasingly important way for rock bands to gain exposure at a time when the genre has lost most of its traction in the mainstream. Billboard has noted at least 15 other rock covers that have dented the charts in the last two years alone, from Avenged Sevenfold’s version of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” to Hell Yeah’s rendition of Phil Collins’ “I Don’t Care Anymore.” “Labels are trying to find any way possible to get their acts a little bit of a leg up,” says Tyler Connolly, lead singer of Theory of a Deadman, whose cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked … [Read more...] about Need a Rock Hit? See Kesha, Maren Morris Sing ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ at All for the Hall New York
Tuesdasy night, in Time Square’s Playstation Theatre, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Maren Morris and Kesha sat in a half-circle and played 16 songs – four each – for an audience of just under 900 country music fans. The show, a fundraiser for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, took the form of an old-fashioned guitar pull. In turns that rotated clockwise around the stage, the four stars shared memories and music so casually and affectionately you’d think a campfire was burning in front of them. Then, after nearly two hours, the night ended the only way that would have felt right: with Harris, a little cautious, singing harmony on the hook to Kesha’s “Your Love Is My Drug.” Moments like this have made these guitar pulls, part of a series called All for the Hall, one of country music’s hottest tickets. Having a host as sharp as Gill helps too. This year, Gill said upon taking the stage, he intentionally booked three female artists for … [Read more...] about See Kesha, Maren Morris Sing ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ at All for the Hall New York
Inside the Blockbuster Life of Michael Bay: The Most Loved and Loathed Man in Hollywood
Not too far from Beverly Hills, in a bedroom that’s all white and filled with glass and sunshine, Michael Bay opens his eyes and thinks, “Why the fuck am I up so early? Yeah. Why should I get up?” For a moment, he is insensate. Nonetheless, he slips a robe on over his Tommy Hilfiger boxers, takes a leak, ties his feet into a pair of K-Swiss tennis shoes, greets his two giant mastiff dogs, makes himself a cappuccino, reads the morning paper and spends a while playing a snowboarding game on his PlayStation 2. As a kid, Bay variously thought he might grow up to become a professional baseball player, a magician, a car-wash magnate, a photographer, a veterinarian, a Buddy Rich-style drummer or a movie director. His grandfather, however, thought he should join him in his laundry business, stonewashing jeans for a living. As it turns out, Bay, 37, has made three movies – Bad Boys, The Rock and Armageddon – that have in total grossed more than $1 billion. … [Read more...] about Inside the Blockbuster Life of Michael Bay: The Most Loved and Loathed Man in Hollywood
