Venice, Telluride and Toronto come in rapid succession, to the point of overlapping. Iranian filmmakers have united in penning an open letter to their friends and colleagues across the film industry, requesting their support in defending the rights of Iran’s people. The letter comes after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in custody, allegedly by police brutality, after her arrest for not wearing her hijab in accordance with government standards. Their letter reads: Dear Friends and Colleagues Brave Iranians have taken to the streets across the country shouting “woman, life, liberty” for an entire week now while facing persistent, violent, and often deadly attacks from the oppressive forces. The Iranian government has restricted internet usage and blocked access to social media platforms in order to further suppress people’s voices. Oscar-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi is imploring everyone worldwide to unite “in solidarity” with protesters following the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of Iran’s morality police. In a video message on Instagram, Farhadi said, “You must have heard recent news from Iran and seen images of progressive and courageous women leading protests for their human rights alongside men. They are looking for simple yet fundamental rights that the state has denied them for years. This society, especially these women, has traveled a harsh and painful path to this point, and now they have clearly reached a landmark.” Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets since last week’s death of the 22-year-old Amini, who was taken into custody in Tehran, allegedly for not wearing her hijab properly. A concert venue in Kraków, Poland has canceled two upcoming shows by onetime Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters following recent comments the singer-songwriter made about the ongoing war in Ukraine . Live Nation Polska and Tauron Arena Kraków announced the decision Saturday on Twitter, with Waters later calling out media reports that said it was he who axed the dates, which were set for April 2023 as part of the European leg of his “This Is Not A Drill” tour. The highly awaited grand finale of Zee TV’s DID Super Moms 2022 (season 3) aired on Sunday.
