When Marvel and Sony announced their groundbreaking deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rumors started swirling regarding which Spider-Man character would be featured in the MCU. There was a strong grassroots movement in favor of the studio using Miles Morales, a young teenager who is half African-American and half Puerto Rican. The studio eventually went the traditional route and cast Tom Holland as Peter Parker, who won rave reviews for his debut in Captain America: Civil War . But it seems fans may still see Miles Morales on the big screen after all. A new rumor claims that Miles Morales will be the focus of Sony's Spider-Man Animated Movie , which will hit theaters on December 21, 2018. This report from Heroic Hollywood has not been confirmed, but the site claims a big clue was dropped by Sony's Tom Rothman during last year's CinemaCon, where he revealed the animated project will "exist independently" from the live action movies. The 20th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival, taking advantage of its timing as the city and film business emerges from the pandemic, will open June 9 with the world premiere of In the Heights . Warner Bros ’ adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda ’s Tony Award-winning musical, which is directed by Jon Chu, will screen outside at various sites simultaneously, and indoors at the United Palace. The restored 1930 theater is in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights, the setting for the film and also Miranda’s longtime home base. There will also be outdoor screenings on opening night across all five of New York’s boroughs, a first for Tribeca, though the fest has long explored many parts of the city. In 2019, the fest opened with a documentary about Harlem’s Apollo Theater held at the Apollo itself. After shifting its usual April start back to June, the fest will be the first major one in North America since the onset of Covid-19 to have in-person screenings, though … [Read more...] about Tribeca To Kick Off With Indoor-Outdoor World Premiere Of ‘In The Heights’
One of the most unexpected offerings from the MCU's first slate of shows on Disney+ is a miniseries centered around Loki, the trickster god, played by Tom Hiddleston. Not only did the character act as a villain for much of the run of the MCU, but he also died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War . Now, Loki is set to experience a fresh set of problems in an unexpected setting. While talking about their shows on Disney+, MCU showrunner Kevin Feige hinted that the events of Loki will play out as a "crime thriller". "[WandaVision] is probably the most overt level -- black and white, old fashioned aspect ratio -- but every show that we're working on I think is about creative swings for both Marvel Studios, the MCU and television. So I'm very excited about what we've already shown on Falcon and The Winter Solider -- that is a very big scale epic action buddy series that we're excited about. Loki, we've not said much about, but is intriguingly different and I think … [Read more...] about Loki Is the MCU’s First Crime Thriller Teases Marvel Boss Kevin Feige
The Peter Frampton Band has released a new instrumental cover of George Harrison ’s “Isn’t It a Pity,” along with a music video that offers a peek into Frampton’s life in quarantine. The cover finds Frampton recreating and interpolating the lead vocal melody of “Isn’t It a Pity” with his always deft guitar playing while his band provides a steady back-up. Accompanying the cover is a music video that opens with Frampton playing a show in 2019, returning home and getting ready for his next run of dates, only to have the tour canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Throughout the rest of the clip, Frampton goes through all the typical lockdown activities: counting the frozen pizzas in his freezer, playing coin games with himself, rolling around on the floor out of boredom, exercising, and Zooming with family members. The clip ends on a sweet note with Frampton excitedly telling his family he just got his second Covid-19 vaccine shot. “We have all been in the same boat for over … [Read more...] about Peter Frampton Band Pays Tribute to George Harrison With ‘Isn’t It a Pity’ Cover
