A report from Page Six claims that British singer Sam Smith has narrowly beaten out Lana Del Rey to sing the theme song for next year's Bond 24 . A rep for Sam Smith said the news is not confirmed yet, but the singer is reportedly in talks with James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli , and is said to be the "clear winner," despite Lana Del Rey 's lobbying for the chance to sing a 007 theme. Sam Smith is best known for the hit song "Stay With Me" which debuted earlier this year. RELATED: No Time to Die Will Arrive in U.K. Theaters a Week Earlier Than Expected We reported in September that the producers were courting pop star Rihanna for a small role in Bond 24 , which lead to speculation that she may have been considered to sing the theme song as well. The last actress/singer to both appear in a 007 film and sing the theme song was Madonna in 2002's Die Another Day . Adele , who sung the eponymous theme song for 2012's Skyfall , won … [Read more...] about James Bond 24 Theme Song to Be Performed by Sam Smith?

Pussy Riot have released a new song, “Sexist,” which will appear on their upcoming Panic Attack EP, set to arrive March 11th. The new track finds Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova linking up with fellow Russian musician, Hofmannita, while White Punk and Count Baldor produced the menacing beat. In a statement, Tolokonnikova described “Sexist” as a comment on rape culture that “tells a fictional story of a heroine being invited to a hotel room by a high-level male government official, being harassed, and winding up murdering her abuser in self-defense. The lyrical idea was born after watching Welcome to Chechnya , a documentary on kidnappings, tortures, and murders of LGBTQ+ people in a Russian republic of Chechnya.” Tolokonnikova also directed the music video for “Sexist,” in which she and Hofmannita flip the power structures of the patriarchy: “Instead of women and queer people being objectified and serving as furniture, we use sexist pigs as furniture,” Tolokonnikova said. … [Read more...] about Pussy Riot Preview ‘Panic Attack’ EP With New Song ‘Sexist’
Pussy Riot have released a new song, “Toxic,” featuring Dorian Electra and produced by 100 Gecs ’ Dylan Brady. The song finds the Russian punk outfit melding their style with Electra and Brady’s hyper-pop acumen, with the track fluctuating between blistering rave beats and a completely blown-out chorus. “Come here mansplain me,” Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova sings, “Your balls meet my knee/Freedom I’m craving/Dare to mansplain me.” “Toxic” arrives with a music video, directed by Tolokonnikova and featuring 3D art by Ksti Hu. The clip opens with Tolokonnikova humming a bit of Britney Spears’ own “Toxic,” then quickly descends into pure chaos, jumping between footage of Tolokonnikova and Dorian Electra as they perform the track and relish a bit of over-the-top (and gruesome) mess. Red Arrow Studios , the production group owned by German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 , took a €46 million ($55M) hit to its revenue in 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic halted production around the world. Red Arrow-owned Kinetic Content landed a big Netflix hit in the shape of Love Is Blind , but it was ultimately an unsettled year for the production empire amid Covid-19. ProSiebenSat.1 shelved plans to sell the company because of the pandemic, while the producer’s CEO James Baker was among a number of senior executive departures. Red Arrow is now overseen by a ProSieben advisory board. According to ProSieben’s full-year earnings, Red Arrow’s total revenue fell 6% from €730M in 2019 to €684M last year. Adjusted EBITDA dropped 12.6% to €42M. Revenue picked up in Q4 last year, when sales hit €235M, compared with €222M in 2019. The widow of a man wrongfully executed for murder seeks justice in all the wrong places in Behtash Sanaeeha and Maryam Moghaddam’s Iranian drama. Adding another strong voice to the chorus of anti-capital-punishment films coming out of Iran is Ballad of a White Cow ( Ghasideyeh gave sefid ), a drama almost entirely centered on the wife of a condemned man who is wrongfully executed for murder in the opening scene. Played with huge amounts of feminine dignity by Maryam Moghaddam, who co-directed with Behtash Sanaeeha, the widow Mina is shown to be refreshingly capable of raising her deaf daughter on her own and navigating the minefield of a highly misogynistic society — and even (gasp) of finding love. But as hostility against Mina builds from her family, neighbors and the authorities, disaster looms and the story grows more suspenseful, teetering on the edge of melodrama. Fortunately, the realism of the acting and the classic, restrained camerawork keep things on a believable … [Read more...] about ‘Ballad of a White Cow’: Film Review | Berlin 2021
