‘Succession’ Star Alan Ruck Says Trump Drama Is Crazier Than His Show

August 12, 2022 by www.tmz.com

TMZ.com "Succession" star Alan Ruck says not even the genius writers on his show could dream up the s**tstorm of Trump World ... conceding fact is truly stranger than fiction. We got Ruck -- who plays Connor Roy on the HBO smash hit -- at LAX Thursday and he kinda threw up his hands, essentially saying the weirdness of American politics couldn't be captured in make-believe, because even make-believe requires SOME believability! Everett Collection "Succession" has been credited with both foreshadowing and recounting real-life events in the worlds of business and politics. Ruck compliments the show's writers for that, letting us know they're simply super tapped into current events. Ruck jokes "Succession" writers are SO good at foreshadowing, they might be able to write a scene where a former President goes to jail ... and then it happens in real life. That's clearly what Ruck is banking on. As you know, Trump's Mar-a-Lago home was … [Read more...] about ‘Succession’ Star Alan Ruck Says Trump Drama Is Crazier Than His Show

‘Worse Than the O.J. Glove’: The Dentist, the Love Triangle, and the Trial of the Safari Murder Mystery

August 2, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

DENVER, COLORADO — Dr. Larry Rudolph was always going to testify for himself. His lawyer wanted him to, but didn’t want Larry to appear rehearsed, like in the hokey TV ads for his dental practice back in Pittsburgh. His girlfriend, Lori Milliron, tells Rolling Stone she agreed that Larry should take control of what she calls a nearly six-year “witch hunt” by the FBI and federal prosecutors. “When I was still able to talk to him on the phone, before I was arrested,” she says, “I told him, ‘You need to get on the stand and tell your story.’ He was like, ‘I dunno.’” But the feds were recording last winter’s prison calls between the defendant and his hygienist, turned mistress, turned business partner, turned partner in crime. If Larry, a figure cut from Trumpian cloth, was going to beat the charges — that he killed his wife on safari in Africa, so that he could spend millions in life-insurance payouts to live large with Lori — then his legal strategy would require overcoming the … [Read more...] about ‘Worse Than the O.J. Grant Morrison: Psychedelic Superhero

August 22, 2011 by www.rollingstone.com

Grant Morrison is, at the moment, on deadline for five comic-book scripts – three Batmans, two Supermans – plus the first draft of a screenplay about heroic dinosaurs fighting rapacious space aliens. But he won’t be getting to any of that today. On this bright early-summer afternoon in his native Glasgow, Morrison has some far more implausible stories to tell, and they might even be true. “This is the house that can’t be lit,” he says, striding into the green-walled, wood-floored living room of one of the four homes his lucrative comic-book career and intermittent screenwriting work afford him – this one a 130-year-old town house in a wealthy enclave known as “millionaire’s row.” “It swallows light. There was a séance in the backroom, and the place never recovered. We keep changing the bulbs, but they won’t turn on.” It’s not hard to imagine serious weirdness going down in this shadowy place, decorated as it is in a haute-bohemian Euro-creepy fashion that makes it look like the … [Read more...] about Grant Morrison: Psychedelic Superhero

Peter Nichols Dies: ‘A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg’, ‘Georgy Girl’ Writer Was 92

September 9, 2019 by deadline.com

Peter Nichols , the British playwright whose play A Day in the Death of Joe Egg provided Albert Finney with his 1968 Broadway debut and did the same in 2003 for Eddie Izzard, died Sept. 7 in Oxford, England. He was 92. His death was announced on Twitter by agent Alan Brodie Representation. A cause of death was not given. In addition to Joe Egg , his most familiar play, Nichols’ credits include the 1972 film version starring Alan Bates and 1966’s Swinging London touchstone Georgy Girl starring Lynne Redgrave, Bates, Charlotte Rampling and James Mason. Based on his own difficult experience as the father of a daughter born with severe disabilities, Nichols’ A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg – Joe was short for Josephine – used broad, music-hall style comedy to tell the story of a married couple struggling to care for their daughter with cerebral palsy. With the jarring use of dark comedy to avoid sentimentality, Joe Egg included scenes in which the girl’s father … [Read more...] about Peter Nichols Dies: ‘A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg’, ‘Georgy Girl’ Writer Was 92

Inside Trump’s Frantic Hunt for ‘Killer’ Criminal Defense Attorneys

August 9, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Behind closed doors this summer, Donald Trump and his advisers have been narrowing the shortlist of criminal defense attorneys he’d need to take on the Justice Department . The former president has had preliminary conversations with Tim Parlatore, a lawyer best known for successfully representing an accused war criminal, about possible legal strategies should the department escalate its probe or hit Trump with charges, two people with knowledge of the matter and a third source briefed on it tell Rolling Stone . Trump’s conversations with Parlatore and other newly retained lawyers are part of his broader push to assemble yet another new legal team, both for his current legal woes and for any future ones coming from the FBI and Biden-era DOJ. Throughout the summer, Trump has been quizzing confidants on what they think of specific criminal defense lawyers, throwing out a number of names both big and obscure. In other words, as one Trump advisor describes it, the ex-president is … [Read more...] about Inside Trump’s Frantic Hunt for ‘Killer’ Criminal Defense Attorneys

Harvey Weinstein Gets Proposed ‘Prior Bad Acts’ Accuser Bumped From Serial Rape Trial

August 11, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Harvey Weinstein had a mixed day in court Wednesday as he speeds toward the scheduled October start of his serial rape trial in Los Angeles. Lawyers for the disgraced movie mogul scored a victory when Judge Lisa B. Lench sided with the defense and rejected one of the five “prior bad acts” accusers whom prosecutors planned to call to the witness stand to show Weinstein’s alleged “propensity” for criminal behavior. The victory was tempered, however, by a related ruling in which Judge Lench denied Weinstein’s request for a special pre-trial hearing where he could cross-examine the extra witnesses before they’re called before a jury. Defense lawyers Mark Werksman and Alan Jackson sought the pre-trial hearing with the argument that the court should pre-screen the extra accusers — whose allegations did not lead to criminal charges — to test their credibility before they’re introduced at such a high-profile trial. “These witnesses are not just any old witnesses. They’re purported … [Read more...] about Harvey Weinstein Gets Proposed ‘Prior Bad Acts’ Accuser Bumped From Serial Rape Trial
